I chose one of the things I love to do (hiking) because I coudn't picture myself writing 100+ articles on something that doesn't interest me.

Try asking yourself: how can I help people to _____? This should give you a good starting point and direction.

I would say, always go with something you're passionate about. It makes writing so much easier than trying to about something you know nothing about or are not really interested in.
