Building Out my Site

Hey everyone,

This is going to be a short one. I just thought I'd share my most recent decision regarding my website, theguitarregistrar.com. I was thinking about the process of building out the content of my site, and then the process of adding affiliate links and all such things that we are all familiar with.

But since my start at WA I haven't been too happy about the thought of starting a website with very little content and slowly building onto that amount.

Then I thought, "why not do it all at once"? That is, the content aspect. And so I've begun the process of content creation, however I've decided to save all posts as drafts for now, until I have a sizable body of content to publish. Ideally I will have 35 posts ready to go with the official "launch" of my site. I feel this will give me more clout with both Google indexing and also affiliate programs.

I may be doing the wrong thing, and if you think so please let me know through a comment. However I have a feeling I am going about this correctly. We'll see!

Buck

Sounds great Buck, I did that before I launched mine. Helped with getting indexed and ranked I do believe. Nice job. :))

Awesome, I'm happy to hear that someone else tried this and that I'm not way off base with this method. Hopefully it works for me as it did for you Kim!

Just to add, don't forget to use sources to post your blogs on such as Google Ping, Digg, Reddit, Ping Farmer....etc as well as the usual ones like FB, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn or any others you may want to use. :))

That's a good idea, I will definitely look into those places. It makes sense to spread your content throughout the internet, it'll make it more likely to be seen. Thanks!

That is what Social Networking is all about. Google Ping has a ton of sites they send you URL out to, made sure to check all for the 3 different blocks of social sites they send to. :))

That's interesting, I don't know why I haven't heard of that before. I'm glad you told me about it though because it sounds very useful.

I learned about it in a training video called SEO cheatsheet checklist, it was created by the same member that posts all the live training videos that come out on Fridays. :))

Oh ok, I've been meaning to look into those but haven't quite yet. Obviously I'm missing out!

Don't worry, lots to learn just make notes or bookmark things to go back to. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed. Set your goals accordingly and then move on to the next. :))

Content is always good. A lot of affiliates won't even look at you until you have a goodly amount of content on your site. My suggestion is: Follow the lessons! They will teach you how to build your site out properly. Once you have a site up that is getting ranked, then go after the affiliates. So many want to rush it, but the lessons are ordered the way they are because. . . THAT ORDER WORKS!!! Kyle and Carson know what they're doing. Follow them. My nickel.

I agree, it's pretty clear that Kyle and Carson know what they're doing. And I still do intend on doing the lessons in order (almost), however instead of putting out just a few posts to begin with, I'm going to put out a lot. We'll see what happens.

I've wondered this myself but unfortunately don't know what the answer is. I take it that you mean to start the site out with a decent amount of content and then building out the content further after that. The only thing I can think with google is that maybe some of their ranking takes into account the age of your website and that this might make it a good reason to get the website out sooner rather than later - but I'm only guessing here - hopefully someone else can give you a more authoritative answer.

That's exactly what I mean. I was thinking about that as well, since it does take Google a while to index. However, I've heard that using Google Webmaster Tools can speed up the whole process of indexing and get you on your way to being ranked more quickly. That's something you might want to check out if you haven't already.
