Which Comes First the Chicken or the Egg? $11.00 or 11,00$
This common saying came to mind the first time I saw the dollar sign after the amount 11,00$. And it is even more complexing when you see a comma instead of a point.
All legitimate because in most European countries it is the norm to use a comma before the cents and also the currency sign comes after the amount. You may see a euro amount written: 31,00EUR especially if the person typing is on a mobile phone.
Some currency names and, or symbols are interesting to note: The Albanian currency is Lek which means to leak in Dutch. Macau's symbol is MOP$. The Georgian Lari symbol often will not display correctly on your screen - ₾
Myanmar currency is the kyat. The Somali shilling symbol is the longest - Sh.So. A few currencies are pending inclusion in the Unicode database so they can appear on electronic data.
The Venezuelan currency is Bolivar, and the symbol is Bs. Denarius was a Roman coin with an asterisk for its symbol. There are five rupee symbols each with a separate Unicode.
