Wisdom and Knowledge - the difference is clear. Or is it?

Many people have the misconception that wisdom and knowledge are the same thing and can be used interchangeably. However, this is not the case.

We gain knowledge from the moment we're old enough to understand the facts about something. For example, how many of your know that a tomato is a fruit? But, would you include it in a fruit salad? That's where the application of knowledge comes in. That application is called Wisdom.

The ability to assimilate knowledge and apply it in context to make the right decisions is the genesis of wisdom.

Knowledge can come from many sources - personal experiences, the experiences of others, books, videos, seminars, work shops etc. What we do with the knowledge that we receive is up to us. Sometimes it may lay dormant for years on end until an opportunity presents itself to activate that knowledge.

It may be required to work out a challenging situation, making a life-changing decision, dealing with our partners/children/colleagues or simply looking yourself in the mirror and knowing what's right for you because it makes sense - that's wisdom.

Can you have knowledge without wisdom? In my opinion, it's akin to having shoes but choosing to continually walk barefeet and stubbing our toe and getting cracked heels. You've got the tools but choose not to use them.

Is there wisdom without knowledge? The house of wisdom is built with the bricks and mortar of knowledge. This suggests that you can be both wise and knowledgeable, but you can't be wise without being knowledgeable.

A quick case in point - when affiliates (premium etc) signed up with WA, we were provided with a plethora of learning that would assist us in confirming our niche, verifying our target audience, key words and building our website, among a host of other things. This is incredible amounts of knowledge. However, if you sit on the knowledge, never ask a question, or read a blog post but expect success (income!) within a month or two - then you've definitely missed the boat on wisdom and the application of knowledge.

...and a side note - there's no limit to the acquisition of Knowledge and the application of Wisdom.

"Intelligent are those who have knowledge about many things where as wise are those who can apply the knowledge".

Cheers!

Maria

Ooo! Knowledge and wisdom! I love this subject my friend!

In my opinion, you can be knowledgeable in many different things and aspects of life, but to be wise?

Well, you would have had to experience so many of these aspects first hand, learn from what is right or wrong (it is different for all of us, as none of us are the same after all)!

Wisdom is using what knowledge we have acquired to make the world for all of those around us a better place.

Enjoy a fabulous evening Maria, and catch up again soon ok!:-)

Cheers!:-)

Hey my friend Nick! How are you? Totally appreciate you adding your bit of 'knowledge' on the subject. Making the world a better place is a tall order, but can you imagine if we each applied one small bit of knowledge for that purpose, what we could achieve?!

Have a good week! Cheers!

Maria

Exactly Maria! If we all did what we can then we would be living in a much better place my friend!:-)

Grat post Maria.. the same with avocado... The avocado is actually a berry! * Avocados are considered a fruit because they fit all of the botanical criteria for a berry. They have a fleshy pulp and a seed after all.. ;) Have a good evening 😊

Well look at that....I was today days old when I learned that an avocado is a berry! Thanks for that bit of knowledge Paulina! Now I need to apply that knowledge and make myself some guacamole! 😁

I love guacamole πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š

Hi Brongsugah
Thanx for the blog. Many of us indeed find it difficult to use what is at hand . That is to differentiate between knowledge and wisdom. We indeed aquire knowledge, we might born wise but wisdom on its own will not bring success. We need to aquire the knowledge . HOW? By taking action . This will lead to success.

Hello Sarah. Thanks you so much for reading and commenting. Indeed, agree with you that action is certainly required in the attainment of wisdom. Best wishes.

Maria

I had challenging situation where a combination of knowledge and wisdom was required to perform a certain task. I can just imagine what a brain surgeon or Heart surgeon would have to decide on before they perform their task. Thanks For Sharing !

Thanks for reading and commenting Tony! Much appreciated.

Awesome, No Problem !

I would submit that the more knowledge we gain in our lives leads to the wisdom we have at an older age, Maria!

Jeff

I agree with that Jeff! I do think that it is up to us to acquire the knowledge in order to generate the wisdom - no matter how old we get. Have a great week! Hope Kansas is giving you some sunshine today!

Maria

You must have had a crystal ball, Maria! It IS sunshining today! I know you probably have sun too!

Jeff 🌞

I Got Clouds on my end although it was said to show some Sun shine in the later part of the evening. No sun yet !

Oh no, Tony! Well I hope that the temperature is at least mild to warm!

Jeff

Freezing this morning while it was still dark, between 4:30 and 6am.

😫πŸ₯Ά I hope it warms up for you!

Yeap, Hope so too !

Though it will be dark
when it is time to go home.

Well, be careful out there, my friend!

Jeff

Will Do !
