Is the length of your page/post still as relevant in 2016/17 for SEO purposes?

Nothing has changed. Remember, Google is a search engine that absolutely loves websites that have lots of content for it to index. More is always better, but it should be quality content.
What I mean by this is that if the content does not warrant it to be long form content, then do not fill it with fluff content to reach a certain word count.
That being said, Google rarely ranks "thin" content highly and content should ideally be no less than 1,500 words. In fact, as seen in the attached graph by serpIQ, 2000+ word content ranks the highest.
Thanks for the feedback. I had seen the graph before, but wondered if things had changed since it was published. Obviously not, so will certainly keep your advice in mind when writing content.
This is a valid and very good question you have.
I can't say for sure if Google has adjusted its SEO criteria but I do know so far that videos are rising which, you already mentioned in your post, is more preferred by the audience these days.

I certainly do adjust to the new "demand" so to speak and will create video content supporting the video content with some written content as well, kind of a snippet.
