Why Choosing the Right Button Color on Your Landing Page Matters

Hi WAers,
My main focus today is to discuss button colors on my landing page. My overall goal is to increase my conversion rate. To achieve this, I have designed three landing pages, each featuring three buttons- one at the top, middle, and bottom.
However, I encountered some difficulties choosing the right button color last night. I decided on a blue button for all three options, but it didn't work well with the landing page's color scheme.
Did you know choosing a button color on your landing page can significantly influence user behavior that affects your conversion rates? I share why selecting the correct button color matters and understand the psychology behind three-button colors for your landing pages.
Why Choosing the Right Button Color on Your Landing Page Matters
Every element captures your visitors' attention and directs them toward action when designing a landing page.
You and I should pay attention to the color of your call-to-action button when creating a landing page.
A button's color can significantly impact user behavior, whether you believe it or not.

There are several reasons why choosing the right button color on your landing page matters:
- Different Color Hues Can evoke or alter emotional responses and perceptions in people's minds due to cultural, personal, and physiological factors.
- Sense of Urgency, Trust, or Confusion: Your visitors will react to these three responses. Understanding the psychology behind different colors and how they can affect user behavior on your landing page is essential.
- Color Contrast: The right button color can make it stand out more and guide visitors' attention towards it. On the other hand, the wrong button color can blend in with the background and become easily overlooked.
We already know that button colors on your landing page impact the user's perception and behaviors. It goes beyond the aesthetics because it can either make or break your conversion rates.
The Psychology Behind Button Colors
Every element is vital in attracting and engaging visitors when designing a landing page.
Perhaps the most overlooked aspect is the color of the call-to-action button.
The color of a button has a correlation that affects and impacts user behavior and can ultimately determine whether a visitor clicks on it. This is because colors have unique psychological associations and can evoke specific emotions in people.
Here are three top button colors and the psychology behind them:
1. Red Button: High Energy and Urgency: Since red is often associated with passion, excitement, and urgency, it is the perfect color for "Buy Now" and "Sign Up" buttons that require immediate action.

Psychology Behind Red Buttons:
- Passion, Intensity, and Urgency: When users see a red button on your landing page, they instinctively want to click it. Red is associated with danger or prompt action (Ambulance red light siren, Red siren, Fire, Hazard, Toxic sign).
- Eye-Catching Nature: Our bodies are also stimulated by red, which increases body heat, heart rate, and blood pressure, making us feel more urgent.
- High Energy Emotions: With its strong association with high energy, passion, and excitement, red can create a sense of urgency and encourage visitors to take action on your landing page.
2. Green Button: Nature, Health & Safety: Green is often associated with nature, health, growth, and safety. This makes it an ideal choice for call-to-action buttons that require users to "Start," "Join," or "Explore" new things.

Psychology Behind Green Buttons:
- Trust & Safety: Incorporating green into your call-to-action button can help build trust with site visitors because it conveys the idea of natural healing and security.
- Calming Effect: Green is a calming color that can help visitors engage with your landing page without feeling pressured and a sense of trust. Use serene images of landscapes and gardens featuring shades of green.
- Easy on the Eyes: It's one of the most restful colors for our vision because it falls within the middle wavelength of visible light. Reading text or clicking on a button with a green background won't strain your eyes as much compared to other bold colors.
3. Orange Button: Warm, Energetic, Creativity, and Fun: This color can evoke feelings of enthusiasm, warmth, and vitality. It is often used to grab attention. When users see an orange button, it can evoke feelings of joy and adventure. Associated with the use of words such as "Discover," "Join," and "Get Started."

Psychology Behind Orange Button:
- Excitement, Friendly, and Enthusiasm: Often used in call-to-action buttons to grab attention and encourage visitors to act, orange is a warm, energetic color that evokes enthusiasm.
- Creativity & Fun: With an orange button, you can create a sense of adventure and encourage visitors to try something new.
- Attention-grabbing: Orange is one of the most visually striking colors. It stands out more than blue or green, among other colors commonly used for call-to-action buttons, making it more noticeable.
- Psychological Associations: Orange stimulates mental activity and promotes positivity; it makes for the most practical call-to-action button. It can motivate users to interact with your content and be more engaged.
Selecting the appropriate button color may appear insignificant in web design, yet its effect on user psychology can greatly enhance conversion rates on your landing page.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right button color on your landing page is vital for your click-through and conversion rates.
Of all three buttons, the orange button is the one that brings the best results. To test the validity of that. I will be using all three, red, green, and orange, and let's see which button leads to better click-through rates in the next month or so.
I will share the data after I've run them on social media and Pinterest for December. It is essential to conduct testing to find out which button color resonates best with your targeted visitors.

Very interesting post Brenda. I would not have thought the color of buttons would matter too much. But that pic you put in your post convinced me. As I looked at it for awhile I felt myself feeling more calm and relaxed. I will definitely keep this in mind for my landing pages when I eventually do them
There is definitely psychology involved with colors. Should be interesting to see your test results.

Hi Brenda,
I'm more non-conformist in general. 😉 So, on one website, the color of the buttons is a mixture of red and orange, with white writing. In another, I have a dark green, visually pleasant, also with white writing.
Which color do you prefer or use?
Greetings,
Diana.
