New Website? My Top 5 tips on how to get off to a great start
Very excited to start working on my next project - a rotating advertising site: RotaryTraffic.com.
I just finished some more training lessons on launching a new site here at WA and also did some external research. As I came across some powerful stuff, I wanted to share with you my key takeaways in regard to launching a new site.
So here are my top 5 tips on how to get off to a great start:
1. Make Your Blog Load Faster
Did you know that Google considers the speed of your website when ranking your website in search results?
Google is factoring site speed into search rankings. So, it only makes sense that you would make your blog as fast as possible.
If you aren’t careful, you can easily add a bunch of crummy plugins and themes that degrade your site’s performance over time. It’s important to spend some time reclaiming that speed and improving how you rate on Google.
2. Add Your Blog Content To Aggregation Sites
Sites like Digg.com and AllTop.com are content aggregation sites that you can add your posts to for effortless traffic.
Simply sign up and 'submit your link' and watch as people discover them without any effort on your part.
3. Go Visual
If you want to get ahead on social media, you need to go visual.
Just spending an extra few minutes creating an eye-catching image in a tool like Canva (it’s free to use) will have a sizable impact. This is particularly relevant for Twitter. Tweets with pictures attached stand out so much more when trawling through your feed.
4. Run Circles Around Your Competitors With G+
Being active on Google Plus and sharing your newest blog post with relevant 'circles' or groups can not only drive traffic but generate discussion and engage new readers.
5. Optimize Your Social Sharing Buttons
Do you know where the best place to put your social media buttons is?
The placement of these buttons can actually make a big impact on how many shares your posts receive. They seem to do best near the top left of the page.
None of the above tips require you to purchase anything. It's all free stuff and if you want to see fast results then focus on the ones with the least amount of time investment vs the biggest reward.
This is what worked well for me. Have you got any extra tips? I'm curious, so please let me know in the comments. Thank you!

Thank you Boris......my first day here, waking up to find so much great discussion activity, and help such as yours. Question: do aggregation sites help any with backlinks?
Hi Wayne, welcome to WA. You'll love it, I'm sure.
Yes, you get backlinks which can improve your Google ranking. Take Digg.com as an example. You just need to open a Digg account and add your link(s) to your Bio. Don't forget to set your links to be accessible by public. That's it.
This way you get a free PR8 backlink in next to no time. Good luck!
Hi!
Thank you for thinking us to succeed here in WA. I really appreciate your sharing. I'll look into this. My website is really not going anywhere yet. Hope this will help.
God Bless.
Bliss
Thanks Bliss. Just had a look at your site http://acupressurepointsforkids.com. It's really well done and very informative. I'm sure with a little promotion, you will rise through the rank of Google.
Wishing you loads of success. Keep up the great work.
All the best
Boris
great stuff! really useful, thanks for sharing that. I am quite new, so I don't have any tips for you. But I especially like the first one. I know in the US you have street articles, but in the UK I am not sure if we have anything like that.
Thanks for your post.
Thanks Ruth. Actually haven't heard of street articles before but will check it out. Is this the one? http://www.streetarticles.com
Cheers
Boris
yes that's it, I haven't used it myself, I am waiting for that bit on the trainings, but from what I have seen it seems to work well for people. Let me know how you get on!
StreetArticles is not recommended anymore. In fact you are better posting to your blog than using any Article Directories at all.
Thanks, Ben. Didn't know that. As I wasn't familiar with StreetArticles, wanted to check them out for inspiration, but the intention is anyway to post to my blog directly. Cheers!
Oh really? Why is that? I hasn't actually gotten to tht bit yet butane that's because there isn't a 'bit'
