Some Ideas Are Bad Niches Waiting To Happen
I was driving on the highway the other day when I spotted a strange looking car approaching in my rear view mirror.
I am one of those drivers who always has his head moving, checking the view in all of my mirrors every couple of minutes.
This black car looked like it was encased in a white webbing.
I moved over one lane to the right so this car could pass me on the driver side left.
As it passed I noticed the white webbing was actually a web of white LED lights and the cables connecting the lights.
I had never seen anything like that before. I've been seeing some wacky paint and wraps, but not this!
EVIDENTLY THIS IS A NEW HOT TREND
When I saw that car in the daylight I just thought it was another weird thing that some young kid did to his car.
Then the following night I saw a car pull up to the traffic light opposite me and it was lit up like a Christmas tree.
It finally clicked in my brain. That car I had seen a couple of days prior was wired with Christmas lights.
I went to Facebook and asked my friends if they knew about this and they were laughing about it.
So I checked online. I did a search for Christmas Lights for Cars and found dozens of posts, even ads from Amazon.

I didn't know this was actually a niche and a popular one too, not just here in the United States but all over the world.
I remember when I was a kid, Christmas lights were bigger and for decorating your tree and the outside of the house.
Then when LED lighting became smaller and more popular, people were finding all kinds of creative ways to use them.
So it seems this new way of using LED Christmas lights is a new HOT TREND all over the world.
If Amazon is selling them, there are many posts on Amazon as well as other retailers, then it must be a new niche.
BUT IS IT A GOOD NICHE OR JUST A FAD?
So far this is a new and growing "Hot" niche but I think it is actually a fad that will die out soon like burnt out bulbs.
What makes me say that? Common sense for one. If you have ever seen one of these cars at night, it's distracting.
It is so distracting that it is also becoming ILLEGAL in many states here in the U.S. and I'm sure elsewhere.

Just because someone had a cool new idea for using Christmas lights, doesn't mean it is a good idea,
This is why I say this is just a passing fad. I can see this becoming ILLEGAL everywhere and it will flicker out.
Some ideas are bad niches waiting to happen, Have you seen cars like these? What are your thoughts on this?

YES!! I hate the new LED headlights. Granted they do make you see better if you are the driver, but when another car is coming towards you with those same kind of lights, it's blinding.
It's even worse when people put those big LED Light Bars on the front. Sometimes I wish I had a large mirror on the front of my SUV just to reflect back those bright lights.
Wise thoughts! Well I hope the 'modified cars' would disappear and become illegal because the noise of them is horrendous and whatever sort of human needs that much attention drawn to themselves and their every move including all hours of the day and night should possibly be offered professional 'help'...maybe there's a niche there [!]
I agree. I was just having a conversation with someone about noisy cars earlier today. I said, when I was younger and wanted to draw attention to myself, I drove a sporty car that was always spotless. I didn't need nor want loud farting tailpipes and added lights. Some of the things young kids do now to their cars I think are totally ridiculous.
LOL you really have a way with words, Boomer! 'loud farting tailpipes' takes all the imaginary glam out of it, those folks need to hear that loud and clear... I had thought after I wrote it though if 'modified' car was even happening across the pond, seems it is! And they are not all youngsters, so many guys in their 40s+ at it too! ...spotless sporty car, now THAT would still get attention and without waking us up or being a form of torture!
A farting sound is what I think of when I hear the popping sounds coming from the tailpipes of these modified cars. When they first started here, they almost sounded like the popping sound of gun fire.
Then these young drivers are lowering their cars and having the wheels on angles. Looks stupid too me. As for guys in their 40s doing these things, I think they are over-compensating for something they may be lacking? LOL
Wow! Interesting! Just learning about these. I think it is just the "flavor of the day". Imagine 10-20 cars with these lights waiting at a Stop sign? - Super distracting! You are right - they will eventually become illegal
When I had seen that car at night, at first, I said, that’s really cool looking. But then the more I looked at it the more distracting it became, especially once it got closer. Seems like it would be good for a parade but not driving around in public.
Uh Oh! She may not like how the adhesive is going to mess up the paint on her car. I have read some reports by people who have done this, and they claim it leaves marks on the paint surface.

There are many persons in my country (for example) who would gladly jump into this fad. However, it appears to be seasonal, attractive mainly in the Christmas season and in my country maybe at Diwali. For me the other consideration is whether the authorities would allow it. In some countries such displays may be banned.
I agree and that is why I feel this is more of a passing fad than a “Hot Trend” as many others are claiming. Yes, it looks good but only if you are not driving and see one drive by. However, the police in many places are giving expensive tickets to drivers with cars like this.
My apologies for this delayed response.
I didn't see this till now. It went into my junk mail along with 28 others from WA. I can't say that it may be a passing fad, what I sure of is that if it is a fad, it will be a Christmas fad ^_^.
