A Common Mistake Many Make With Their WA Promotional Websites

A LITTLE TOUGH LOVE

Do some of you realize that the content you are creating for your websites promoting Wealthy Affiliate are as annoying as a pesky telemarketer, trying to get you to buy something you do not want or are not ready to buy? I don’t want to see multiple affiliate links to WA within the content of every page of your website. That is a huge turn off and it will push people away from your website and it will also make Google not as interested in ranking your website highly.

What is going through your mind when creating your website content? Are you thinking about your website readers and the information they are searching for or are you thinking about getting them to buy into WA through your affiliate links? Obviously it is the latter, judging by all of the “link bombing” that I see on many websites promoting WA. Kyle explicitly says that you should not do that, so why are you?

YOU ARE TOO DESPERATE FOR A CONVERSION

That’s right, I said it and I’ll say it again. You are too desperate for a conversion. Would you want to buy something from someone who appears to be desperate in the manner in which they are selling or promoting something? I know I wouldn't, I know the general public looking for a legitimate learning and online business opportunity wouldn't, and I certainly know Google wouldn't either.

So how can you get people to take an interest in what you have to offer without being like that annoying telemarketer? BE SUBTLE IN YOUR APPROACH! Limit your affiliate links to one, maybe two, pages of your website. Like Kyle says in his training video, you want most if not ALL of your affiliate links to appear, "be centralized", on one page or post. Then you can link back to that page or post from other text or picture links on other pages of your website.

HOW TO BE SUBTLE YET STILL HAVE LINKS ON EVERY PAGE

There are two ways to have affiliate links to WA appear on every page and not have it seen as “link bombing” by Google and your website readers. The easiest and most obvious way is to have a WA banner or image in your Sidebar. Being that whatever you have in your sidebar will appear on every page, this is a great way to get your affiliate link to always appear.

But did you know that there is another subtle way to get an affiliate link on several pages that Google will not penalize you for? If you have taken the Boot Camp training course, Phase 1 / Lesson 9, Kyle shows and tells you how in his training video.

I too did this back in November for my WA Review, see picture above. You may remember that on November 22, 2013 I posted a blog that asked many of you to give me a brief personal review of WA. I then copied the URL to this WA blog post review and created a link to it at the end of my WA Review on my website (see link below). Being that it was relevant to the focus of the review page AND I was the content creator, I didn't need to post it as an affiliate link. So if anyone who wasn't a WA member was viewing the blog post review and decided to join WA while on my blog post, I would get the full affiliate credit for it.

Whenever I create one of my many blog posts here at WA I always create them in such a way that I could use them as a subtle affiliate link to me, because I am the author of the content. Like Kyle says, all blogs and training here at WA gets indexed into Google and if someone should join WA through any of these, you will get full affiliate credit because you are the original author.

For example, I currently posted a blog about 8 hours prior to this blog post that asked all of you to write your personal review of how easy it was to create a website here at WA using the Site Rubix website builder. I am going to create a page on my website in the near future about the Site Rubix website builder and I am going to link to that earlier blog post so my readers can read all of your review comments.

This is how you can use your own relevant content on your websites that will act as a subtle affiliate link without it actually being an affiliate link. So if you haven't yet commented on my latest Site Rubix Review Blog that will be linked to in an upcoming webpage on my WA promotional website, please visit the link below. Also please leave any other comments about this blog below as well.

Thanks Robert!

You're welcome Terea.

Thanks Robert. Very useful blog. It's a great learning.

You're welcome Swadesh, I'm happy you enjoyed it.

Good reminder Robert and good to see you back, for a change.

Thank you John. I've been doing a lot of writing lately along with working much at the new job.

Is Seattle still a buzz in Seahawks jubilation? :)

Nah. One week, now it cooled down a little.

I'm glad the Seahawks won. I was the only one at the Super Bowl rooting for Seattle. I was out numbered but it felt good watching people saying they wanted to turn off the game early but I made them keep it on. lol

You've got a mean streak in you, don't you?
John

Yeah, you only have to put your affiliate link using a BANNER that is provided by WA at the side bar of your own website.

YUP! That's what I do on my WA Website Arnel. With the exception of my WA Review page, the Site Rubix widget and a couple of WA videos, I use only 1 Banner in my sidebar and that is it! All of my affiliate links are centralized on my WA Review page, exactly as Kyle teaches us in Phase 1 of Boot Camp training.

Great point! I was going to ask this as a question as a new member.

I really did not understand the links I saw on some websites!? It made the whole thing look so sketchy.

It doesn't make sense to me, If you are ''supposedly'' just blogging, reviewing and recommending products, that you are telling/showing your readers how/where you might be making money off of them by putting WA links on a website that has nothing to do with money or home business.

I have 0 experience yet, but my first thought was that WA links should be on a review site or a site about the economy, etc...not bath soaps.
The banner or sidebar is great advice for such money related sites.

Thanks, I enjoyed your straightforwardness in this blog.

Thank you Genevieve, I'm glad you enjoyed reading my blog.

You being a Newbie doesn't make you someone with no experience because you are a website reader and like you said, seeing WA links on a site about bath soaps...yeah, that would make me LOL too.

Everyone just has to remember the training that Kyle has taught all of us. The knowledge I share with everyone in my blogs has mainly come from the training by Kyle and it's the same training everyone else here at WA is getting.

I'm still learning how to create good content. Every time I read one of my Blogs or pages I will make changes. I have a getting started page that I send reader to join WA. Also have a banner on the right side on every page and blog. Today I will Look at my Site with reader Eyes and am sure I will make more changes. I think when we look at each others sites we are to nice. We are not here to be nice we are hear to learn and help each other. At the same time we must not be mean. Ask questions there are "No Dumb Questions only Good Ones".

EXACTLY! You are correct in everything you just said Bill and going over your content and updating it is something I do all the time too.

It's amazing but sometimes I will go back and watch the training videos from Kyle that I watched when I started here at WA 6+ months ago and he clearly states what I repeat in many of my blog posts, including this one.

Thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated.

You're welcome John.

Thanks for this reminder. I was putting a banner on each of of my posts because I thought it would be seen as sort of an advertisement but you are right. It may come off desperate to readers. I am going to fix this now!

Like Kyle says, you have to create content that is informative and not in a way that is a dumping ground for advertisements. You have to gain the trust of your readers through quality information so that they will want to buy from you without you forcing it on them.

Just be subtle in your approach and you will do fine Mercedes.

Sometimes we are too close to our 'creation' to give it the critical eye and need a second, sometimes even third opinion. That's why I've been asking for feedback every step of the way from you guys and I try to reciprocate with my honest opinion. If we're honest with each other then we all benefit.

That's exactly what you should do. Good job!

Even though I've been writing content for quite some time, I always go back and read it at least twice before I post it. Like you said, that we can be too close the our creations and we need to look at it again to make sure it reads well.

Thanks for your comment Marc.

So true! When I first set my site up, I was so excited to plug in all of my banners and links.

A few days later I took a look at it from the readers perspective and I instantly hated it! It was a telemarketing site from beginning to end.

I had to force myself to read through the content.. all the while editing and killing all of the banners and links.

I still have a long way to go, but I like the idea of one central page for the affiliate links. It definitely cleaned up the other pages and made them more "tolerable".

Fortunately for me I didn't make that mistake because I had already done that on my first website and kept scratching my head as to why I wasn't getting ranked, I also used too many keywords.

But yes, the excitement of being able to sell on your own website can be overpowering and has to be ignored so you can create content that will encourage your readers (and Google) and not turn them away.

You took the correct approach and went back and read your content through the eyes of a reader. BRAVO! Thanks for your comment Jeannette.
