This is a little bit of a rant, but not about WA...about me and my hourly job. Have patience with me on this and understand...I have to vent some frustration...

A Little Bit of My History Here at WA

If you have read any of my profile or some of my previous posts, you would know that I have been taking things kind of slow and the work on my website was "a little at a time". It was as I liked to call it "slow by design"...lol.

You would also know that I work in a manufacturing plant and it has on occasion cut some overtime. Sometimes it's busy as can be and lots of overtime and then at times slow with the overtime. In the years leading up to me joining WA, we always had non-stop overtime and it was a lot of hours and I was missing time with my wife and daughter.

Now it is sort of steady with the overtime...but with occasional weekends off and that is what hurts my income. I am working paycheck to paycheck and there isn't any extra

Today is a New Story at work

I worked for this company for 25 years, approaching 26 years later this month. Today, I went in to work like any other day. My supervisor texts me and tells me to come to his office when I arrive. So, I did. He asks me to walk with him and we end up in the HR manager's office.

I am not feeling like this is going to go well. The HR manager reads a document...and BAM...I'm being walked out for a three-day suspension. I am usually the model employee and recently there have been a few new policies put in place and it is taking a little to get used to by me. Remember, I have been with them for 25+ years and these policies are new.

I come to the realization that it does not matter that I have been there as long as I have and they don't care that it might take a little to get used to these new policies. I have been consistent with my habits and work ethic so, I am not bitter about it...just flabbergasted!

Either way, I will miss out on today's 8 hours of income in next week's paycheck along with the overtime I was scheduled to work from this weekend. Oh, and the overtime I will be working next weekend will be straight pay because I will only be working three days of the weekdays. The attendance policy requires 40 hours of straight pay before time and a half or double time pay is given for the overtime.

So, It's Time to Get a Move On!

What am I going to do about it...exactly what I have already got in place to do. Work on my business even more. I guess it took this to make me realize that the only way I have complete control of my income and finances is to have a successful business. My website needs to be my primary focus now and I will have to sit down with my wife and make her realize that I am serious about this now.

I will continue on with my hourly job and become even more of the model employee and at the same time...work on my business and still give to my wife and daughter. But I have got to put in way more time on my website. I have to be sure that I am able to retire from the manufacturing plant late next year sometime and get on with my own life.

It is time I start planning out my retirement and how I want it to happen...

I want to be able to be with my wife and daughter on a more full time basis.

Ok, I'm done venting now...

So, as Roope would say "SMASH That LIKE Button"

I would also appreciate any comments that anyone may have.

Thanks for reading.

I wish you the best!

Bob

I can understand what you are going through because I and my husband is living paycheck to paycheck and it is hard to do that. We are struggling just making it but it is hard to live like that.

So I am doing what you are doing is working on my site to add more to the post that I already have and thinking about what else that I can post but at least I am working and I have put it in God's hands.

You just have to bide your time and keep working on your site and if you want to get some business cards and start passing them out and see what happens with that. it is an idea.

Best wishes on your journey with WA and just keep add it.

Mary

Thanks Mary, living paycheck to paycheck is difficult. We barely scrape by and the suspension will really put a cramp in our style.

We have a couple things to fall back on for emergencies and hopefully we won’t have to dig into that yet. But good to know it’s there just in case.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I wish you the best!

Bob

You are so very welcome it was my pleasure. We don't have anything to fall back on it is all we have to do to scape by but we are doing it though and I am grateful for it.

Mary

It is tough...the fall back for us at the moment is to take out a loan from my 401k, I am hoping we won’t have to though.

So far we are able to without touching it...I still have to wait to see what the next couple of weeks will be for us.

That is when my shorted paychecks from this suspension will have more effect on our ability to pay the bills.

Yes, I understand what you are going through we are going through the same thing except we are living on a disability check once a month and that is it.

So basically we are in the same boat but we are making it though I guess.

Mary

I will keep you in my prayers that things will work out and that this brings success and more for you!

I wholeheartedly wish you the best!

Bob

Thank you so much, Bob, I really appreciate that so very much and Best wishes to you on your success and on your journey with WA as well too.

I too wholeheartedly wish you all the best in this journey
Mary

Thanks for sharing, Bob.

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.

No problem.

Hi Bob, it is a good thing to vent, glad you did. It is a shame that after 25 years of dedicated work someone in HR probably with little experience and maybe just a number cruncher.
I am glad in your decision to continue with the company you are with. The bird in the hand theory. You appear to be the person that is willing to do the extra work to provide for your family.
I do wish you all the very best.
Most big companies just do not seem to care about the individuals that made them a success.
For instance GM in Canada is planing on shutting down a plant and leaving a lot of people without a job. This is a company that was bailed out by Canada during the 2007 bad economic period. Labor is cheaper in Mexico. Sorry that was a bit of my rant, even though I do not work for them.
Personally I think you should take a lot of pride in yourself.
All the best to you.

Thanks for that...I am one to not let things like this get me down...lol!

A mini vacation...albeit without pay...but still time to sit back and regroup.

I wish you the best!

Geez, Bob, it doesn't even sound like they gave you a fair chance. I'm glad this light a fire in your to work even harder at your business. Won't it be nice to tell them "See ya!"?

I do love your attitude though that you'll get back in there and be even MORE of a model employee. I think this is the right attitude to take. Do BETTER than what they expect.

Lots of success to you!

P.S. You are an AWESOME writer, and I read your entire story all the way through because it was really captivating.

I usually do have a decent attitude about things that happen for the good or bad. I figure they have their job to do...and now I have mine, if you know what I mean.

Oh, and thanks for the comment about my writing...I try... 😀

As always, I wish you the best!

Bob

Great post!
I'm sure many others have had this experience with employers. It's too bad that they don't look out for long-time employees.
It sounds like you have a good plan for the future.

Enjoy the journey!
Marsha

Thanks for stopping by. I do have a good plan...I just have to make it a little over 1-1/2 year(s?) and be successful online to do what I plan.

😀

I wish you the best!

Bob

That is truly shocking to me! I don't know anything about employment law where you live but in the UK this would not happen if you have a genuine contract of employment. Here you would have to go down a significant disciplinary procedure, starting with verbal then written warnings before any sort of suspension.

Obviously I don't know you and forgive me if this sounds offensive, it's not intended to be, but I don't know if there is more to this story that you have omitted. The outcome you describe would only come in to effect here if you had been suspected of gross misconduct and that is a very serious charge.

If this is not the case then I have no idea how you roll with this other than to find another job and if that's not possible you just have to knuckle down, do what you need to at work, minus any overtime and devote every spare minute to making a success of your own business here through WA.

Whatever the outcome I wish you well and hope for your success.

No offense taken...like I mentioned new policies in place within the last couple of months and so there has only been one other thing. However, in the past, this employer had a policy that you receive a verbal warning, two written write-ups and the third write up would be a suspension.

They are rather quick with their suspensions lately with other employees and is getting rather toxic also lately.

In the past this company was very forgiving when it came to mistakes. This time it was a judgement call and the policy is not enforced equally across the board with all three shifts. It seems the policy only has effect for the day shift employees as that is when the primary manager is present.

I’m over it...not angry or disgruntled...but do know what needs to be done from now on.

Thanks for your comments.

I wish you the best!

Bob
