Im special because my family says i am!

I received this little essay today from my youngest grandson, Corbin, whose 10 years of age. I thought it was wonderful and, obviously, so did his teacher. I’m not going to edit it or spell check either.

“I am special because my family says I am! I don’t know how they feel that way but they do. My dad says I make his day when I smile at himin the morning. He tells me that I have a special place in his heart that no one else can fit into. Its there just for me and I would be missed if I was not in there. My mom told me that I am special because she wanted me when I was born. She hugs me in the morning and when I get home from school. She takes care of me when I am sick and feeling lowsy. There are a lot of things I try to do for her to. One thing I gots to do is keep my room clean and neet.

My big brother is a pain but I love him anyway. He keeps me busy and happy when we go out and there is a lot to do when ia m with him. He is 19 and as tall as dad. He moved out this year to go to college and he comes home some times on weekends so that we can hang out and chill.

I am part of a hug family and my grampa is the boss. He tells us all what the family was like a long time ago and he spends a lot of time sitting with us just telling us how we shoud be with others. He is really old and is retired from work. He was a chef for a long time and stopped working cause his legs got to sore. Now he has more time for me and my cousins. We love him and he says that all of us are special in our own ways.

He tells me that he loves me for my sens of humer and my way of not getting into fights even at school. He told me that my next birthday he will take me to hemlock valley for sking if there is snow. I keep getting told that I am special by my grandma and my aunts and uncles. Dad has 8 brothers and sisters and they all tell me I am special and I don’t remember what each on said why I am. But I am special because my family tells me I am. Others don’t count cause my family loves me and I am special to them.

If you meet my grampa you will see how mch he loves me even if he is not well. He still love me and I love my family. They are the best in the whole world.”

His teacher wrote, “Very well written, Corbin. You are a person of excellent character and you show it to all your friends and classmates. See my mark at the top.” (She gave him an A)

This is so special! You guys are definitely doing a great job in raising him. Great when children have so much self confidence, and all because they know they are loved. In the end love is all that REALLY matters.

So true, Karin. I see so many kids out there with no hope in their eyes, when they should have the boundless optimism that we had growing up. I'd just LOVE to see what their home lives are like. That's where it all starts.

Absolutely so.

It is a classic! He sounds like such a sweetheart! Bless!

He is. He's our youngest grandchild, then there are the 12 great-grandchildren.

Ian you are the glue in your family and Corbin could not have said it better. I can almost see the smile on his face has he wrote this. Great read, thank you for the share.

Thanks Harvey.

Oh my word, bless his little heart! What a gorgeous boy. I love that Grampa 'is very old and is the boss'! :)

I am going to get him for that 'very old' comment. His father, my son, laughed himself sick on that one.

It's so happy to read about a happy child in a happy family. Many "happy" not because I don't know other words- I do. It's just happy- the way it should be for a child...Great family...
Thanks for sharing...:)
Vera

Thanks Vera. We were brought up to believe that our children and theirs, to infinite generations, are the building blocks of our family, which is one of the building blocks of our country. Attack the family and the country dies. Just look at Germany and Italy in WW2. Once they had the youth in their pockets, it was downhill from there.

oh, yeah... if all families were built this way, the world would be a different place...
God bless all of you!

Thanks Vera.

Lol me too. Great writing better than me

Can I hire him for my content writer. Tell him he did a great job for me. Thanks for sharing. Dave

I will. Maybe I'll get him to write a blog on HIS favorite subject.

Obviously he has a super family!

True dat.

I so love children's simple and honest perception of life and how they tell the story the teacher was right to give him a A a budding writer in the making, so your the boss then lol

Only because my wife gave me permission. lol

lol enjoy the status whilst it lasts then

Yep. I married a big Jamaican girl and she is DEFINITELY Queen of the House. I stay out of the daily operation normally. Now that she's fighting dementia, I have had to step up and do things, but she still runs the house.

aww I am sorry to hear that it is a difficult illness to go through, hope you wife does well and it helps having you to assist her,, take care

Thanks Katie.

Hi lan, Indeed! For a young boy to write such a good article, it is not common. The fact that he said everything out from his heart will touch everyone including me! This shows how much love you and your family have given him.

Thanks Sadie. Our kids are the jewels in our crowns as we get older. We want them to shine.
