I remember in grade school, on the field, and its PE class. The teacher picks 3 leaders to pick out their teams for dodge ball. I keep hearing name after name but not mine. In the end, I didn't even get picked, my teacher just told me to go join the other team. Yep, It sucked.
It was these kinds of events which made me feel like I had nothing to contribute or offer. As a kid, I took this pretty hard on myself. You know that term "suffer in silence". Yes, I kept it to myself.
But when this happened over and over and over, it gave me this desire to belong. And so in high school I joined as much sports and clubs as I could. It gave me a chance to prove that I was good enough and it wasn't about whether or not someone thought I was useless.

Don't wait for someone to ask you to be on their team. Show up and show your value. And when you become a part of the team, really partake in everything there is to offer. Get your hands dirty!
Take it one step further and encourage those that are sitting there watching and help them to get involved.
