Lost Both Parents Last Year but I'm Back Now

My parents were married for 55 years. I have heard many times that close friends of many years will often pass on very close to each other. Well, that was true for my parents.

My father died in October from a heart attack. He was a caregiver for my mother who had a stroke 13 years ago. My mother died almost exactly 1 month later in early December.

It was a difficult time emotionally and financially but I believe I have now recovered from both of those.

I have missed all of the close friendships I have created here and its time for me to re-engage and start looking forward again.

Hope is important in our lives and no matter what we've gone through, its important to find it or keep it.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

I am sorry to hear that. I am a newbie here. But, I would like to welcome you back. I wish you continued success in your Journey.

Hi Rick, First of all, I'm sorry to hear bout your lost. Very strong man/son. I have heard stories before related to yours, and I always find them sad and touching at the same time. Thanks for sharing, your story.

I also want to welcome you back to WA. I'm glad you're recovering. I'm sure that's what your parents would have wanted. You can do this...to your continued success. I know you will do your best...

Get rest and take it one step at a time...

So sorry to hear! I know this isn't quite the same at all, but I said goodbye to my 14yo cat last week and it ROCKED me emotionally through this entire month. I'm still getting over it all and have very much realized how unprepared I am for dealing with losing my parents. My heart goes out to you!

You're exactly right, it's so important to find hope again, no matter what happens in life. There are always many positive things to keep looking forward to, but we have to take time to grieve and heal, and then at some point find the courage to embrace those positive things and move forward once again. Glad to hear you're doing just that! Wishing you all the best!

Hi Rick- Good to connect with you here in WA.
your Parents must have loved each other dearly to go so close to each other and your strength is awesome.
It's good to have you back and the more you work the closer you will get to financial freedom so go well and keep being amazing.
Vicki

Rick, sorry for your loss, but now is your time to put on your shine, and shine the way to enriching others with your unique gifts, and they will enrich you in return.
You can do it! And you will do it. Don't just be a goal setter Rick, let us all be goal getters.
Love is also doing your very best, the best you have got to offer.
Suzay

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like your parents had a true "forever" kind of love. Both my parents have been gone for years now and I still miss them but would not wish them back with the ill health they suffered through during the last years.

I agree hope is so important in our lives, I'm so glad I have the hope of seeing both my parents again one day.

Hi Richard,

I am sorry for your lost. indeed, it is a double blow to the chest when you lost both parents so close together. I know what it is to lose a parent because I have already gone through that with my father.

However, in time you will remember them with fun memories and not shed a tear when you do.

You have to go one with your life so you need to continue to do what makes you happy.

Much success to you!

Kind regards,
Nichola

That was a really rough time in your life. I hope things get better each day. I'm thinking, working here at WA and engaging with the community will help you immensely.

Good luck with everything!
Cal

Thank you for sharing. Your parents sound awesome and I'm glad you seem to be coping well and have this community for support. My parents just celebrated their Golden Anniversary and although they do not seem anyway as close as your parents, in my speech during the celebrations, I highlighted the love, patience, acceptance and hard work such a long committed marriage makes. Not just between my parents as the ups and downs also involve the rest of the family! Wishing you well.
