Finally, my site looks the way I want it to.
It took a while, but I finally found a theme I really like, and I managed to get the hang of categories, posts vs. pages, parent pages, creating different menus, uploading pictures etc.
Thank you to all those who answered my questions.
To the newbies, don't get discouraged if you can't figure out the back-end of WordPress right away. It takes some trial and error. And don't forget you can always ask for advice.
