The Art of Starts

In the world of drawing and painting there is the valued concept that starts are as important, if not more important, than finishes.

When you pratice many "starts", you learn much about sizing and placing the various shapes and values within the borders of your drawing paper or canvas.

In drawing and painting relationships are of the utmost importance.

Starts are where the learning begins. Many starts help improve your visual accuracy.

Spending too much time on finishing everyhing can often lead to drawings that lack proportion and have many misplaced shapes.

I wonder, if this may be a concept of value in content writing.

I know I often start a piece only to decide soon after that I wasn't getting it the way I want it, and soon chuck it and start over or take a different approach.

I'd be interested to hear how others approach their writing. Do you go full gun or do you find yourself rewriting often.

Hav a fun day..

The start is very important. How you start determines how often you scratch it off and re-start.
There is planning before the start of any writing. Sorry, but you can't just open the computer and "start ." There has to be a plan.
If you have a niche, you have the general topic. I search for my keyword first. Then comes the research . After the research, comes the outline. I decide my opening, or introduction, then my general headings and my conclusion.
After I do the basic, or general outline, I fill in the blanks. The preparation takes the time. If you do the prep right, the writing comes fairly easy.
I would think drawing would be similar. There will always be rewrites .I don't know how to eliminate them, but with a general plan there should be fewer.

I'm with Dave, but then put it into the computer and do a quick edit and then publish!

Pad and pen. Also use quick drafts as well

Practice always makes perfect and with our learning with get many opportunities to practice the skills that will help us become better at everything.

A lovely analogy.
