Advice for Newbies Like Myself

I now own 4 website domains. I should have spent more time thinking and less time buying at the start until I had a firm conviction in what I wanted to do, though each time the idea seemed better than the last. I did pick a niche each time that was of interest to me but it was at the back of my mind that I really should pick an "evergreen niche" as so they are called. At least try to find something in that area that I was passionate about. With each niche initially it felt like I had an endless fountain of ideas but the tap quickly ran dry and I felt stuck and lacked direction.

When I initially watched Kyle's training videos and he said about picking something you were passionate about I kept thinking to myself, geez I don't really have any hobbies, per say and I didn't really feel like I was passionate about anything so I was struggling with that too. Weight loss inevitably seemed to be the right way to go because I have been successful at it, and I am passionate about it, but only in the sense that I want to keep living a life geared towards always improving physical fitness but once my few ideas ran out I could no longer think of interesting things to write and my site was not getting any visitors and I had targeted many key words.

Then my real life situation/circumstances were brewing around in my head other day. I had started meditating for the first time in my life back in March when I incurred my work injury, well it wasn't a direct injury, it was an accumulate injury, chronic overuse type of thing. Anyhow, I suddenly felt struck with inspiration about it and thought of how I could use what I had learned to help people. I didn't even waste time thinking about how extremely competitive this arena already was because I knew I had a special take on this and I have always been pretty good with words, so I've been told. I have never been a formal writer or anything, mostly in just the way that I use the words I guess.

So I started creating that website and I stopped spending half my day doing keyword searches and just started writing content that I enjoyed and that pertained to my topic. My content grew pretty quickly (on day 5 now and I'm at around 22 pages and 3 blog posts something like that).

On one single day I received 10 visitors (and it was not a day I requested feedback LOL). I was shocked. The bounce rate was only 30% so of the 10 people, at least 7 people found me halfway interesting. I have even received website comments from people not in our community. I was blown away. By all rights, I should not have had any traffic for a couple months yet, at least until I had targeted some key words. Meditation itself has ridiculous competition. I just didn't care. I believed that this was the right thing and I believed it was going to be successful and now I am seeing the signs that it will be.

My advice to those who may be new like me and are struggling in a similar way. Take a day or 2 and think about something maybe that has happened to you in your life that changed you, is there a topic/niche in there somewhere? Something so personal to you that you feel you could write endlessly about it? If you have to, think about it while you are lying in bed just before you go to sleep and the answer may come to you soon.

Try it out, spend a few days writing content without looking at keywords, just content that comes from joy and not out of pure keyword searches. Don't worry so much about what your niche is like I did. Don't pick a category just because it is a high traffic industry (health care, weight loss, etc.). I mean I am not saying pick a niche of how life would be on mars but don't worry about how big of an industry it is, because you can make it big all on your own. Take the path of least resistance! I'm not saying you should never focus on keywords, please don't take me out of context but don't base your site on that alone. You don't want it to have a cold impersonal feel of just a bunch of facts presented in writing.

Hey, Barbie, thanks, this is a refreshing approach!

Hello Barbie,
This is a very great introduction for Newbies. Filled with your old you and now the new you is revealing.

Great Success to you!

Yep, Barbie I totally understand your subject matter in this post. I put the brakes on Wednesday after purchasing (1) domain via godaddy.com. I felt so strongly about what my 'subject matter' yet afterwards I found myself second guessing this decision. So, I took yesterday off to reassess my decision making. I continue to have deep conviction on the subject matter that drove me to go forward with making the purchase of my first domain. I now have a totally different take on how I feel the ultimate website development should be performed. But like you in many ways I found two other areas that I am very knowledgeable that would be great to develop. Thanks for your post it has enlightened me tremendously this morning.
All the best and Good Luck in all of your endeavors.

Your welcome. We seem to have similar mindsets :) I guess if you look at this business in the right way, you will see it as a platform for voicing your opinion about something you feel strongly about.

Thanks for sharing.
