Hello Stanley - Pleased to Meet You! WA in Flesh and Blood

I wonder how many of you have met another WA member in flesh and blood? I am sure it must be plenty especially when you meet up in conferences. However, I was lucky enough to meet one exceptional man - whom I will forever regard with the utmost of respect in my 24 Visa run to Singapore.

How Did I meet Stanley?

Stanley from Singapore was probably one of the first WA Members that I started to follow earlier this month when I joined as a premium member. Or perhaps he started to follow me first? Who knows? It is certainly not important at this stage anymore.

What I do know for a fact is that Stanley's posts are remarkable and I always flag them to make sure I read them at some point in time or other. They are always intuitive and generous, not to mention full of information.

Two days ago, Stanley quizzed about what we were planning to do on the "extra day of the year" - the 29th February - 2020 being a leap year.

I passed a comment about needing to go to Singapore for the day so that I could get a Visa Extension.

It was a matter of minutes before Stanley PM'd me and asked me if we would make time to meet.

The Leap Year was a Leap of Faith

i have to admit - that I am not one taken to chance encounters - but this coincidence of being at the same place at the same time was too difficult to pass by. I also wanted to meet a fellow WA Member in Flesh and Blood.

And that is when magic got created.

I met Stanley for breakfast at Beanstro down at Marina Bay Sands shopping Mall. It is quite a landmark place (even if I arrived 8 minutes late because I walked in the other direction!)

I wanted to thread carefully, because I had been a touch provocative in my earlier post - with my header about catching Covid19 in Singapore - but it was meant in jest to get people to read it.

I did not need to worry. Stanley is the best example of all that embraces the Singaporeans - warm, kind, intelligent and very communicative.

We ordered breakfast - I had poached eggs with smoked salmon on wilted spinach and Stanley had an omlette. And together we had amazing conversation.

Stanley told me how he managed start up business - how he had in the past been involved in structuring marketing plans for Casino's and also a secret plan for renewable energy.

I in turn told him why I wanted to explore the niche of Executive women who wanted to travel solo and in style.

Blessed is He Who is Given a Key and opens the Door

The key to this door was a blog post - but the door led to a friendship forged in trust. Stanley guided on how I should develop my strategy for my blog - because he has so much more experience than me in this field - although I am a seasoned traveler. I hope I gave him something valuable back when he picked my brain - but for sure I gave him my friendship for live.

Thank you WA for setting me on the road to opportunity.

My 24 hours in Singapore got documented in a Post on my website. Although on the Post, I did not mention Stanley - so that I would respect his privacy - I did mention our breakfast in detail.

And if you are curious on how I spent my 24 hours in Singapore - you can find out here:

Have a great Sunday and blessings to all.

Hey Mariella, it was a blessing to meet you too. I enjoyed our meeting, especially with another WA member in person, over coffee and conversation.

Your “femaleflyingsolo” blog is definitely a great travel niche with awesome targeted audience. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers and 👍🏼 To friendship,

😁 Stanley

Cheers back Stanley! You are one of a kind

😷 yes, I can take my mask off now... 😆 Take care and travel safe.

hehe

That's really great :) In fact this thought of meeting someone had never occurred to me before this post. Thank you for reminding that there is a real world outside the online world :)

If you (or any WA member) happen to be in India anytime, let me know. I will try my best to meet in person

I will hold you to that! I have been to India twice but it is has been some twenty years ago! Tiime to come back... where are you?

Hi Mariella!
That's fantastic! I have been lucky enough to meet my WA mentor in person and learned a lot from him too. He lives in the same town as me so it wasn't a journey like yours!
I hope to be able to meet many other members in the months and years to come!

Best wishes
Dave

That’s also lucky

Wow Marriella ... sounds like you had a great trip in Singapore and I'm glad to hear that you met with our WA friend Stanley. I would love to have been a fly-on-the wall there in your midst.

Happy travels, John

that is a nice way of putting it. It was really a pleasure meeting Stanley - who was generous with a lot of information - and also paid for breakfast! A gentleman all the way
