In this era of digital economy, video is now an indispensable mainstay of our everyday personal and business lives.

What is Video Marketing?

The word video has become an integral part of a person's vocabulary. When it is heard, it conjures up images of playing Super Nintendo, gazing at a big screen, or watching the latest Hollywood blockbuster. But what is it? How does it work? And why is video for marketing important to your business?

Today, videos are used for marketing every which way; through websites, blogs, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and smartphone apps. No matter what marketing tool you choose, it is important to understand how it works. Video is one of the fastest growing forms of online marketing.

What is the medium that a video is typically viewed in?



This can range from the very large, with billions viewed daily, to the very small, with hundreds watched per day. In all cases, if your video is viewed in either the mobile device's browser, or in the YouTube app on a person's phone, you are going to get your first exposure to the product!

Now, let's look at the "How":


How does a video get posted to a website?


The site will have the technical expertise to handle uploading and hosting. Then, they will have their system configured for the most part. Usually this means they have the video's metadata uploaded so that it will automatically be added to other metadata that is already on the site. They may have a separate channel created for that specific video. But, what about getting the video to show up in the search engines?

The technical expertise is crucial here. If your server goes down, your customers won't be able to see your videos. But, the most important step is to get a video "out there" in the world. It doesn't matter if your video is watched on a smartphone, or on a television, or through the Internet. If you don't have a video showing for it to be found, then you are not going to get any exposure at all.

How do you get your video out there?


1. You post it to a social network site. This could be Twitter, Facebook, or Pinterest. If your business has a product, video, or service that relates to the social networking site, you can leverage that relationship. Facebook will have a feature that allows you to tag videos, allowing you to have them show up in your newsfeed. If you have a blog that relates to it, you can use that to tag videos, as well. And, if you have a website or a blog, you can leverage those as well.


2. You create a blog entry that shows a video of interest. That will link to that specific video, and it will also link to your video in the event that your previous entry was deleted. You can also use this entry to link to that specific blog entry.

* You create a YouTube channel. Now, if you have a business with products that relate to videos, you can leverage that. You can set it up so that your business is listed as an "Authorized Vendor" so that your videos show up in the list of videos that customers can view. Your videos may show up with a title and description, and your brand show up as well. You can also leverage that to get your videos uploaded to the main channel, as well. You have the option to have all your videos show in a particular category, allowing you to have a distinct line of succession in the top search listings.


What can you do with video marketing?

We are only scratching the surface here. There are many things you can do with video marketing, and so this article only touched the surface. The more you do these things, the better you will get at making videos.

Be patient, it takes time to get these things perfected, and get them on the road.
