15 days old and counting
Hooray, I'm 15 days old!
In the WA community, that is.
So I'm still very much an infant and taking baby steps. But for the first time, I feel optimistic that I can walk this journey further than any attempts I had tried in the past.
There are lots of great things about WA, but two WA characteristics which have been really helpful to me, and which I haven't yet found anywhere else, are:
a. The helpful, active WA community.
I've lost count of how many questions I've asked in only 15 days. And each time, I either found an answer at once (because someone had asked it before or posted a training tutorial about it) or I got an answer within a day or two. Thank you, my numerous teachers and friends!
b. The bite-sized lessons
Even in my earlier attempts at getting into online writing, the mantra "Take things step by step" or variations of it was repeatedly mentioned. So I knew it. In theory.
But in practice, it's really tough sometimes to remember it when I look at the thick binder of course materials or the hundreds of pages in an eBook. I would feel like there're dozens of things I need to do, at once, at the same time, and I feel so overwhelmed that I end up not doing anything.
If Kyle and Carson put all the WA lessons together as a book, it's a safe bet that it would be a thick book with hundreds of pages too. But instead they lay it out over 5 courses, each with 10 lessons. The video in each lesson is also less than 30 minutes (at least in Course 1) and the "homework" are two or three very specific to-dos.
I've hence found it easier to just focus on getting through each small lesson and completing the two or three very specific to-dos. I ignore all the future lessons. And it works! Even when the to-do is simply "Create three pages in Wordpress (no content writing yet)", it feels like an accomplishment. A small one, admittedly, but it means one small step closer to my eventual goal.
So I managed to complete Course 1 yesterday. It took me 15 days but still, I completed it! And I decided to celebrate by doing something else which I've not done before - post a blog post. So here it is - a celebration of my completing Course 1 as well as a big, grateful Thank You to you, my fellow WAers!
