Fake PayPal Scams Newbies Be Aware

Today 5th Dec 2017 I received another scam from someone pretending to be PayPal stating that they didn’t recognize a device or location that was recently used to log into my PayPal account.

This is not the first time such attempts have been made in order for me to believe and click their link and provide my details for them to fix.

Below is a snapshot of what they sent me. I have blanked out my full email for privacy.

Please note that PayPal will not send you any emails like this nor would that address you as Dear User as shown in the email above.

They will always address you with the full name or if you are registered with them your business name.

Below is the actual statement from PayPal which you can find on your PayPal account if you have one.

How do I know if an email is from PayPal?

You’ll know if an email is from PayPal when: You see your name or your business name in the email. We always address you by your full name or your business name as registered on your PayPal account. Well never use generic greetings like Hello PayPal member. “

You will also note that the email address sent by them would be from PayPal itself and not these phony emails as shown it the image.

There are many members here who would already has received such scams in the past or at least know they exist not just from a fake PayPal email but from other places.

Banks are a popular type along with Amazon and of course those ones where you have been selected to received millions in an inheritance from somewhere across the world you didn’t realize existed

Newbies take note

My main concern is for the newbies who are not aware of such scams as they may not have received such emails before or even coming from other websites.

This is why I want those members who are unsure or have not experience this to be Aware and know what to do should this happen.

To those members who know about such scams and what action to take this is a good reminder to stay on top of things perhaps even let other members who may follow you and let them known there is training on what to do for their benefit as well as yours.

Also remember others have followed you for a reason as such take care of your followers as well not just to add to your number of followers for the sake of it and gloat of how many members are following you.

You would be surprised on how many people do fall for the many scams either online or via email and many times have lost money and other private personal information in the process believing it to be genuine especially now that these days so many scammers imitate the official website and then just modify it a bit to their need to avoid direct conflict.

So what is the best way to deal with this?

First when you get such an email or contact from other sources do not open any link they provide in the email.

Second where possible report this to the original organization they are pretending to be in this case PayPal.

How to report scams to PayPal

To help out with this I have created a short training on how to report such scams attempting to gather your personal and private information and what links to use to report these actions.

So if you are interested in finding out how then this training session will certainly help you out so that should you get such emails you will know exactly what to do.

The link for the training is here Fake PayPal emails or Fake Websites what to do https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

Don’t forget to like this post as well as the training session should you wish to find out how.

Thanks a lot for sharing. They ain't smart enough. They need to go back to school. :)

You are welcome, hopefully, they won't increase their knowledge. But never underestimate their capabilities as there is always someone in the world that's gets caught out.

You are right someone will always get caught in their net.

An unfortunate situation but that is also part of the negatives of the online world.
Have a great week ahead.

I have gotten so many of those lately, but not just from Paypal (I know it's not them), but also emails supposedly from Apple, Amazon, and Google. I actually end up saving them just to show people an example of what to look for in those scam and phishing emails.

Thanks, Brian yes there is much more than what you and others have mentioned. Guess it does become useful for training purpose and posts but wish there was no need. I have had a couple the other day from Apple as well. Also good to be cautious.

Very useful info! Thanks.

You are welcome Alexander have a great week.

Thanks for sharing this!

This email is really amateur, but there are others out there who play at phishing with far better looking emails.

For instance, there is a well-known scam site called microsoftstoreemail-dot-com (note the extra 'email' in the address?) which regularly sends out emails copied from the real microsoft store (which is microsoftstore-dot-com).

But clicking on those fake emails will take you on a different path...

I would always advise, as best practice, and especially when you are not 100% of what you're getting - to NEVER click on ANY link in an email to complete an action.

So Paypal or Microsoft or your favourite bank, social media, or antivirus vendor are writing?

Then visit the actual legit site for these entities and log in there.

After manually typing in a web address you know to be true, and not some near typo squat.

Thank you, Ivy, for your added input very much appreciated.

You are correct there are many much more professional than what was shown here but the end result for some can be the same should someone unwittingly click the links.

Sometimes I also check incognito mode with some web address and many times I have received warnings about the site.

Have a great evening Ivy and week ahead.

Thanks for sharing. There are so many ways people are getting scammed these days. You are right, many newbies would innocently fall for this deception.

Thank you, Nathaniel, yes you are correct many are still getting scammed that is why I want to let any newbies and not so newbies who may not still be aware.
Have a great week ahead.

I always forward those fake emails to spoof@paypal.com. A week or so ago I was getting fake emails every day.

Great to hear from you Marion yes they seem to be focusing a bit more lately perhaps they are trying for their Xmas bonusing.
Thanks for the visit and comments much appreciated.
Have a great evening.

Thanks for the advice, next time I will report it. And May y9u have a great week too!

Thank you I will. :)

I have received a fake email, it was in my spam folder which alerted me to it being fake.

A good place to keep them I do the same but every now and then there is a new one lurking by.

That is why I felt the need to inform especially those who may not be aware.

Don't forget to clear your spam folder and get rid of them.

Also, thank you for the visit comment and like much appreciated.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
