To Give Is To Learn

We are all familiar with the blog post Kyle has made for us request feedback on our sites and posts, and also to give.

Now most of us probably want more feedback and website comments than we want to give out, I'm guilty of that a lot of the time as well.
And we'll find ourselves maybe leaving a quick reply saying well done without much actual helpful information.

I have been spending a good 15+ minutes everyday or so trying to give quality reviews and leaving comments. And I noticed something

We are depriving ourselves of valuable information!
We rely on others for feedback, whilst the opportunity of learning from others like us, is right there!

With every new person and new post on that article, another opportunity for knowledge is created.
The opportunity to use the mistakes, advances and ideas of others to help benefit ourselves, whilst also praising, helping and guiding others on their work.

What do I mean by this?

Lets use an example
You are reviewing two different sites to leave feedback.

#1 is by someone who's clearly been working on it for months and has a great setup. You are having trouble to find things that need improving. Even though you're still learning and are possible missing little things, the site looks FANTASTIC.
The colors, the layout, the way the posts are written flow like water, you're not even in to the subject but you want to keep reading.
All these good things, and all you may take away is "that was cool" and leave a "good work" comment.

#2 is by someone who's new. They are still learning how to best keep the interest of a visitor, still learning the WordPress writer and theme editor.
There might be a lack of Capital Letters, headings, images, or beneficial content in posts. Maybe the colors don't work too well, or images are in the wrong place.
Things are a little messy. And that's fine!!!
You'll leave a comment suggesting a few changes and go about your day.

Now heres the big question,

WHAT DID YOU LEARN? DID YOU TAKE ANY OF THAT IN AS KNOWLEDGE?

Maybe! Maybe not. Maybe a little.
The #1 site you thought was perfect. USE THAT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.
Take those great things and implement them in your own way. Take notes on how the person wrote that ever-capturing article, why is it better than yours?
Why did those colors work?

And for #2. The suggestions you offered. Make sure you are implementing them yourself. If you saw how confusing it looked without any headers, or spaces, or bullet points, REMEMBER THAT! Do some post editing of your own if you need to.

DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN?

It is taking that 5 minutes to help someone else that can help you as well.
It's a two for one deal. Three for one if they leave some feedback for you!
And with new feedback requests on that page everyday, there's an abundance of opportunity.

But make sure to use it in your own way! This isn't about copying exactly or stealing.
It's about taking ideas and inspiration from places you may overlook, and lets be honest, we all do it at least sometime

SO GO LEAVE SOME FEEDBACK
TAKE IN ALL YOU CAN TO IMPROVE
USE THE GOOD AND THE BAD

AND BE A HELPFUL PERSON AND LEAVE QUALITY FEEDBACK!

Hope it helps, and best of luck to you all

Hi Andrew its all about working together , we all move things forward . Totally agree with you we can get so much from exploring websites and by making written comments we reinforce and articulate what we are learning . Thank you for sharing.
Alexander

Thanks for reading!

thank you for these simple points

the reality is that we can learn from everyone, and this is not just limited to WA members,

all the best,

Indeed. Any other website you see can be an influence for sure. Im always analysing the web for ideas i can implement.
Thanks for reading

Hi Andrew, good points and thanks for sharing it!

Relating to your blog above, I would like to give a compliment to Emily (@Allmyrel) or you may find her here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/allmyrel

She is really a good WA member who really takes her time to read the article that she gives comments and feedback. Really appreciate her sincerity in helping other by giving out without holding back.

This is a good reminder to apply what Kyle has taught us or the guidelines in giving comments and feedback.

Thank you for reading. First time ive posted anything like this so I hope it helps some people.
And Thats great to know about Emily. I have followed her, cheers!

Thanks for reminding. I tend to overlook this.

As do we all!

This is excellent. I love your thinking :)

Cheers! I'm all about analyzing. I think its a very hand tool.

Definitely important. I'm trying to take away my selfishness so I can become a writer that writes for the people reading my content. It's easy to write for yourself, but difficult to write for others. I need to start using the site feedback more only have 1 credit at the moment, but I definitely see the value of the tool.

For sure. My website is guitar based. And so I naturally have to write FOR the reader in the sense of explaining things.
I understand things when it comes to guitar much easier and with less explanation than most people need, so i have to make sure im not doing that in my writing, but rather explain more so all my visitors can understand.
