Staying Focused.

Well it is Tuesday night and I just finished watching the All Star Baseball game.  I was rooting for the AL but I was not sorry to see the NL win since they have not won in a longtime.

i have been working on getting my blog started and making progress.  I am trying not to get discouraged when thing do not go right.  I had a hard time getting back into the swing of things after I came back to town after visiting my mother.  I am trying to concentrate on one thing at a time so i stay focused.  I sometime have trouble staying focused, so I tell myself to slow down and concentrate on one thing at a time.  If I do one thing then I can move on to the next thing.

I think focus is the term we use when we don't know what we are supposed to be doing next. We most often lose our focus when we lose our way. If we know what we are supposed to do and don't do it, that's procrastination, not a focus issue. We blame our lack of doing on our lack of focus; I have found my lack of "focus" is a lack of knowing what I should be doing.

I agree; one thing at a time sometimes helps us get things done. But, what I find that gives me focus is a plan for what needs to be done down stream. A solid map with specific tasks associated with each point of destination will bring you laser burning focus. When I know on Monday 80% of what I need to get done on Wednesday I can plow through. Interruptions and unknowns account for the other 20% so as long as you plan for a 20% unknown, you can still maintain your focus.

When I get like this I stop everything until I have a new plan in place. I do absolutely no other task, as the only important task I face is the task of planning tasks so I can unjam the process.

Don't know if this works for others but it is the only way I know to regain "focus".

I agree. Focus is one of the biggest challenge for those of us who work at home. Potpiegirl says get something out there every day -- and that is what I try to do - a short blog post, a lens, a hub -- something. or if I cannot manage that, I try to learn at least one new thing. so I can tell me I moved forward every day, even by a tiny bit. I think One Thing a day is a good rule - no matter how you translate it. :)

Amazing Girl, I find that I am taken off my game when I try to do too much at once. Your instincts are right on. One thing at a time.

I think failure is the best path to success as you learn what not to do only once. Keep at it and do not give up.
