Facebook Curtails Chat in Groups
Facebook Groups - Chat Services Cut
It was announced today that Chat services in Facebook Groups would be cut off on August 22, 2019 (Thursday)!
If you are a marketer in the MLM world this will likely have a huge impact as Groups are the favorite place for recruitment and team building and the Chat was often used to link and communicate with team members!
Read the article on the Facebook Community site ... it is hard to believe, but it seems official!
There will be a big backlash, I am sure ...

This removal appears as part of their ongoing initiative. Facebook has stated they are now focusing more on "personal interaction" ever since the Cambridge Analytica scandal and other scandals last year.That includes within Groups.
It makes sense, Like it or not, the fact that as of Aug 22 you can only Chat with those that you have "friended" shows FB is now prioritizing personal interaction.

I've read the (very) short FB Community Blog Post a few times and I'm still not clear on it!
I have 2,600 Members in my Group, I am 'friends' with twelve, all buy my products.
So, my Chat is going to be archived (read only) and I can only start new chats with people that I 'friend'?

As per what both Allan's post says, the official FB community page and the additional comments by Kaju, that seems to be the case, within your own group of 2600 you can only chat with those whom you have "friended".

Many Facebook Groups have been using Chat (Messenger) within the group as a recruitment/teambuilding tool! It was a great way to do multi-person communications with group members and contributed to the success of many, many MLM type businesses. The overuse/abuse of this feature has apparently added to the instability of Facebook as they are taking this drastic action with only a few days warning! They know the backlash is going to be huge, but have taken this step anyway ... I can only guess the whole Facebook platform was over-burdened. Chat apps take a lot of computer hardware resources!

Just yesterday I have addressed that very point in here in response to a great post by Alenka who shared another slew of anti business new rules by Facebook.
But hey, in the end some will still insist that Facebook is the place for their groups, so what do I know?

LOL ... I know the feeling ... just a retired executive who found a new life in Social Media but can't keep up with all the changes and counter-changes and counter-counter changes! It is hard on the brain ... it prefers consistency and stability!
Sad but not surprising. Facebook are really up themselves. A bunch of globalist stooges who are probably being instructed behind the scenes to do all they can to stifle solo entrepreneurs and marketers who's products and services are independent of corporate control.
I know that's a bit political, but it's how I see it.

I believe the massive misuse of Social Media by the politicians is largely to blame ... the additional load on the platforms must be significant. Would love to see some stats on the traffic volume of some of these organizations who are using fake profiles to spread their lies!

I have found it is getting virtually useless as a marketing platform ... the management (or lack thereof) is atrocious! Back to SEO and Google/Bing ... LOL
Me too. I give zero time to google, facebook, or amazon. All three are too big for their britches. Facebook is in big trouble and I love it.

I barely use FB, just took it out of the closet and dusted it off a few weeks ago so I could possibly get some aff. links in MMO groups in there...maybe by taking out the chats in each individual groups they will be relying on a less process hungry Messenger app?
It took me quite a while to accept it was even real. I have done Google and Facebook searches and it appears authentic! Very unusual and will make a lot of business users pretty upset!

I suspect it was a huge resource hog on the Facebook servers ... maybe the service will be more stable as a result of removing this feature ... it does sound like they have something else in mind. But two days notice is unforgivable ... :(

I have never trusted Facebook very much. It seems they are on a downward spiral. Where will it lead, only time will tell.
