Hello worldwide WA community and [as adjusted for your local time zone] Happy Wednesday!

Today's brief post is part of a long series of posts focused on shifting and emerging trends which I feel we need to not only be aware of and understand but to also act upon rather than to react when the uninformed masses out there awaken to a rather sobering reality.

This post was inspired by an older article which was published by Business Insider (BI)way, way back on June 12, 2017, which nowadays seems like an eternity. Some more "seasoned" members may read the title and recall the 1991 song by Asia "Radio Killed The Radio Star" except this time the victim is yet another medium. You decide which one as you fill in the blanks in the brackets.

One may say that videois a "serial killer". Of other mediums.

Fortunately for us, or at least for those of us who care to pay attention to such almost irreversible trends, we can still righten the ship and head in the right direction.

The BI article's title: "Video will account for an overwhelming majority of internet traffic by 2021" should in and of itself make everyone gasp, not wonder because it was long coming, but gasp because of the key phrases "overwhelming majority of internet traffic" and "by 2021".

Got all of that and its import?

Well since some may argue that the "overwhelming majority of internet traffic" phrase is loosely defined, and as a legal professional I would agree with that, let us quantify it, shall we?

To lay the foundation, we need to note that the prediction in BI's article was based upon Cisco's annual Visual Network Index (VNI) forecast.

From that forecast, we can skip the tech stuff most of us would yawn reading it, however important it may be, but maybe the following details may keep us awake and paying attention to:

Overall IP traffic will increase by nearly three times by 2021 to reach 35 GB per person per month, up from 13 GB last year.

Smartphone traffic will also overtake PC traffic in that time. Smartphones will account for 33% of total IP traffic in 2021, up from 13% in 2016. PCs accounted for 46% of total IP traffic last year; this will decrease to 25% by 2021.

In addition, here comes the promised quantification of video content in relation to traffic and more

  • Video will represent 82% of all IP traffic in 2021, including consumer and business IP traffic, amounting to a million minutes of video transmitted through networks every second. Internet video, IP video-on-demand, videos exchanged through file sharing, video-streamed gaming, and video conferencing are factored into this estimate. Last year, video accounted for 73% of global IP traffic.
  • and
  • Specific video formats are poised for growth. Live video is expected to grow 15-fold, from 3% of internet video traffic to 13% by 2021. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) will increase by 20 times between 2016 and 2021 globally, at a compound annual growth rate of 82%. Stemming largely from downloads of VR content files and apps, and an uptick VR streaming would push Cisco's prediction even higher.
  • and
  • Internet video delivered to TV is taking hold. This category grew by 50% in 2016 and will grow 3.6-fold by 2021. By 2021, internet video to TV will be 26% of fixed consumer internet video traffic. AT&T's DirecTV, Dish's SlingTV, Hulu, YouTube, and PlayStation have all released IPTV services, and as more of these products hit the market, this category of video streaming is expected to grow.
  • and
  • But mobile video is growing faster than TV. Growth in digital TV (comprising cable, IPTV, satellite) is growing much slower relative to mobile video, especially in North America and Western Europe, where digital TV penetration is high. The Middle East and Africa, on the other hand, are the only regions with double-digit growth for digital TV, with 11% compounded annual growth.

I will leave the takeaways for those who will care enough to read and hopefully take action.

2021 is around the corner and the video onslaught is almost here.

But in order to get to 2021, it requires us to have 2020 vision.

Only if we care, of course.

Eyes that look are common. Eyes that see are rare.

Blessings!

Thank you - great post.
An ever changing world at a vastly rapid pace.
Who would have thought it would happen?

I even remember when IBM President stated
" I think there is a world market for maybe five computers"

& Digital Equipment founder -
"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home"

Denis

Dennis,

Thanks for taking the time to read and to comment.

My concern is that not too many will head these trends and the inherent advice to adjust their vision in their marketing strategies and efforts.

When a metric is at 82% one should really take note and go find their "new blue ocean" as ClickFunnels' Russell Brunson calls a niche that is unique, at least temporarily before others come in and it then becomes a congested "red ocean".

Blessings!

Wow wow wow
Definitely food for thought
Thanks so much
Daisy

Thank you Daisy.

I am happy, albeit often I feel like one man crying out in the wilderness trying to awaken anyone who cares to listen.

I am also happy that you got to hear me all the way out there in NZ. the nation which has adopted the Irish born Nigel Jon Dermot Neill aka Sam Neill.

I apologize for the limited knowledge I have about NZ, however, I have no doubt that you can instruct Prof Twack to educate us in NZ's history.

Blessings!

hahaha, Sam Neill. Ill get Prof Twack on to it.
I listen, and those that don't will one day be saying to themselves......I heard about this in WA years ago, but will be sadly left behind,
I love learning, knowledge is Power in whatever way you interpret Power.

I had better get organised.....hair dyed, makeup on, glad rags out of the closest...and start filming!!

That's going to be a big step for me. I will get there though.
Blessings to you also
Daisy

BOOM!

Sam Neill or Jay Neil of WA will produce your videos, so no worries there.

Blessings!

BOOM!
Really!
That's amazing!!!
Daisy

Video has always been important. And as we read less and less, of course, video will fill the vacuum.

Thanks for sharing.

Good information, thanks for sharing, Alan

Great post. And it's amazing how fast video has taken off. And it's been largely driven by the increased internet speeds and bandwidth that's become available over the past few years.

As 5G becomes the norm in the near future (2020), even faster speeds and more bandwidth will continue to drive Video and VR.

Just imagine the possibilities when quantum computers become a reality. The thought of nearly instantaneous computing boggles the mind. I hope I'm around to see it!

Cheers,

Michael

I agree we need to be watching the new trends and don't lose sight of them.
It was not too long ago we would not have thought Social Media would take a big portion of a marketing budget or that Tablets and smartphones would have to be considered in how we design our websites and also how we deliver our message to the end buyer.

I have started learning Instagram and Video marketing. Facebook is still good for some things, but not as strong in a lot of ways because of the changes they are making.
Good food for thought. thanks,
Bill

Bill,

Thanks for taking the time to read and to comment.

I am happy that you are using various media platforms, therein lies diversification and foray into new ones.

Blessings!

Love, love that quote from Jimmy Dean. And we thought all he did was make sausage. lol
Some great information to digest. Change is inevitable almost daily in this MMO genre. Adjust and change or miss out completely.

Oh, it was the Bugles ( Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn) who did the Video Killed the Radio Star song and video. It was the very first video ever played on MTV 40 years ago. I was a senior in high school. Downes played with Asia, and Horn later played with Yes, but not Asia. "Tempest Fugit" best live performance video of all time.

Biggest Yes/Asia/AWBH fan of all time here. Seen them perhaps 20 times all over usa.

Thanks for sharing, jamming on Tempest Fugit right now.

Mark

mark,

Thanks for your comments.

To me what is really maddening that way too many are marching n to the beat of the usual "conventional" online marketing drum when the predicted video percentage is at 82% by 2021.

This is like ignoring a Cat 5 hurricane clearly approaching.

But the Paul Revere voice can only awaken so many.

Blessings!

BOOM! video did indeed kill the radio star! Best get my hair done, put a smile on my face and start filming 🤣

I want to take make-up lessons from a female impersonator! Most of them do a far better job than I do!

BOOM!

Let the trampoline dance battle video series begin!

Prof Twack and I will skip the hair done thing, we have opted to have less hair and less down time and instead focus on the substantive stuff like card counting videos for dummies which should get tons of traffic. Our giveaways will be sandwiches.

We just need to get our drone fleet in order first.

Blessings!

hahaha Going to start my youtube, when I start phase two of my journey lol. Got to climb the phase 1 mountain first lol

BOOM!

Where is the Professor? Still delivering greatness?

I think our trampoline dance battle videos would go viral, although trampoline dance battle as a key word is rubbish!

Trampoline Dance Battle is a 'low hanging' fruit keyword BUT we could tie it in with Health, and Injury words!

Now I'm liking the direction we are going lol

BOOM!

Sara,

As the Queen of the Centurion Club you will alter the mumbo jumbo SEO nonsense in Jaaxy to the point that "trampoline dance battles" will overtake Macarena, Lambada, and electric line dances.

One word of caution when you type the phrase "trampoline battle dance" especially if you mistype the word "tramponline" like I just did on purpose to caution you.

Otherwise it can lead to Quora like results.

Just sayin'...

Blessings!

Multiplying our low hanging fruit keywords, while going viral doing trampoline dance battles! Only at WA lol

BOOM!

Just borrowing heavily on the wisdom of CF's Stephen Larsen.

Blessings!

BOOM! hahaha GO TO JAIL, DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT $200!

Do not do it! The guy in the jail is not as much fun as Shaunna and I, can't speak for Prof Twack as he has gone AWOL!

BOOM!

Did you read my intentional typo?

Did you really read it? Check it out, that's gonna go way viral!

Blessings

Well done!!
TRAMP Online!!!

BOOM! so sorry I overlooked your brilliance, whilst dealing with an after school meltdown, over new teachers!

I've been called worse hahaha

BOOM!

Sara,

Other than my dyslexia, I saw that gate wide open.

See the first part of my post's title?

Adjust Your VISION.

Shaunna saw it and it's gonna go viral now.

Blessings!

I saw it second time viewing after I didn't have dramatic crying of a 9 year old in my face.

It is genius.
BOOM!

see we are making magic here lol

BOOM!

Start of text:

"Dear Sara,

Shaunna and I as the principals of the North American Pact (NAP, yeah as in taking a nap, we are that boring...) issue the following summary report after analyzing your video marketing plan loosely titled "TrampOnline Dance Battles" for the 2021 campaign:

In sum we see the video marketing concept as going viral, even if the title is pure clickbait. Not sure how many episodes you can create but the traffic will be almost immesurable with that kind of alluring title. You may also consider marketing a line of togas which will be featured in the video content.

We however give pause to your suggested podcast series with the same title since by definition the audio doesn't convey what the audience is "fully" expecting to "see". We would therefore caution against the podcast series of the same title. You can instead do one about global warming. It 's a HOT topic indeed.

These are our preliminary recommendations to your video and podcast marketing campaigns, subject to change at our own discretion.

Please remit payment in US Dollars, we cannot be sure what will become of the EU and its silly currency.

Thank for giving NAP a chance to be of service to you."

End of text.

Blessings

BOOM!

Prof Twack failed me on the "frat" typo but he would love this one, and he will be the first subscriber to you above referenced video channel.

Blessings!

BOOM! Its definitely a GO FOR LAUNCH! or LUNCH depending on how you are feeling hahaha

BOOM!

We at NAP would recommend LUNCH before LAUNCH otherwise you too will nap.

Plus you will surely need lots of energy (supplements anyone?) for those TrampOnline Dance Battles.

Blessings!

BOOM! like what you did there! although the health market is being severely penalised by the big 'G'. (Not the big big 'G')

Blessings

BOOM!

Are we still in PG-13 rating territory or the low hanging fruit one?

Speaking of Prof Dr Twack, you mentioned earlier that he may have gone AWOL.

While being across the pond and our NAP drones were unable to locate his whereabouts, I wonder if instead of going AWOl he (as a professor) went to A.W.O.L. (notice the spelling) Academy.

You know the snazzy so called online marketing which you feel that they are doing you a favor if you pay them $15,000 to be part of their "academy".

If Prof Twack sold his Jag he may have just enrolled there...

But, that would be speculation on the part of NAP.

Blessings!

PS: Are you doing trampoline dance battles warm up in between comments here? 2021 is not that far away, and you gotta get rollin' and going viral real soon.

BOOM! sorry for going A.W.O.L. (notice the spelling!) I was indeed, practicing the moves for my debut. Embarrassing mums usually get a good viewing. My children on the other hand are just sitting with their heads in their hands lol

BOOM!

BOOM!

Your BOOM! compliance is superb today, I wonder if you had indeed carried out the penance, to wit: rolling down your driver side window and shouting BOOM! at unsuspecting Brit passerbys going on and about as you drive your car on your daily route.

It appears that you have fully mastered the Stephen Larsen BOOM! principles which you can also add as the opening of your video marketing series.

While your massive amount of viewers will have many memorable moments to note, the opening BOOM! will surely get their attention, scare off their pets and/or blow up their windows and connected speakers.

Then you can strategically take care of that resulting "pain points" you had created by offering them pets therapy, windows and speaker replacement.

Are you adjusting your VISION now about the limitless marketing audiences?

Blessings!

BOOM!

Vision now adjusted to the limitless marketing audiences! I'm ready for 2021!

Where are our partners in crime? Like a double tennis match without the partners. So a singles game it is then. BOOM!

BOOM!

I do agree, I feel like I am seeing a shadow of Gen. Benedict Arnold north of here.

Speaking of him and of north of here, Benedict Arnold, before turning, attempted to take over Quebec during a long miserable march in the middle of the winter and he failed in that quest.

I mean really, where can you get colonial era north American history sprinkled with trampoline dance battles, video marketing, AWOL and BOOM! all under one roof?

If our designated partners abandon us, I on the one hand will see NAP dissolving, as in awakening from the NAP, and, as far as I can tell you will be busy on your 2021 video marketing campaign launch and signing virtual autographs for million of adoring fans, most of whom will have poor hearing after your opening BOOM! in each video.

At least we can thank the Lord that we are awake and aware of what is coming, an have a few chuckles too.

Stephen Larsen puts a big credit on story telling and his BOOM! because if one does only tech babble it will all be easily blocked out or forgotten but the story, crazy or not will stick and so will the related teaching.

I will send you via PM a list of FREE resources from a great website.

No worries, no Quora questions, I promise.

Blessings!

BOOM!
Blessings my friend

Man, I go to beat a client, and you two have plans for 2021!

Excellent!

Re: NAP... I'm in, right after Tramponline Battle (yep that was intentional), then we will find the A.W.O.L Prof. TwAck.

As one of the Principles, I feel that we must find our A.W. O.L member first!

BOOM!

Shaunna,

Sorry neither Queen Sara of the Centurion Club, nor I, a schmuck formerly from Nu Yawk, currently living in exile in the Southwest, west of the mighty Mississippi, can understand Canuck when you say "beat up a client".

At least Sara is up front on her tramponline dance battles marketing strategy.

As for Prof Twack, I shall reach out to the Constable of the British Royal Navy Observatory Bureau For Missing Persons and ask those gentle men there to dispatch drones, with consideration given to nearby flying pigeons in their flight path.

Blessings!

PS: No worries, NAP is here to stay, we shall forever doze off at least.

re: beat up a client I'm a Massage Therapist ... ...LOL
I beat people for a living 🤣.

Dispatch the drones!!

I read the same article!!
A very interesting take on everything! I found this exceptionally helpful!

BOOM!

Coincidence on reading the same article, or was it a united North American team effort, eh?

Blessings!

Video rocks!

Chris,

Thanks for your comments.

Blessings!
