A Mere WordStar User

I would say I am a late bloomer when it comes to technology particularly computer.

It was in 1995, my Senior Year in the Seminary, that I started to use a computer and the application during that time was WordStar 7 run by MS-DOS, Windows.

If not for my thesis in Master of Divinity I would not have bought a computer unit. It's convenient to own one than to go outside the Seminary and rent for hours doing your work. I haven't known the internet yet nor the Facebook, I was just a SWordStar user and no more.

Windows 95 and Windows 98 for Office Only

When I graduated in 1996 I and my wife were assigned in Alicia, Isabela on the Northern part of the Philippines, we were able to acquire another computer unit with Windows 95 application, which is an upgrade of WordStar.

Yet that was only for office use and no internet yet. An additional feature included audio but no videos. Nevertheless, we enjoyed that until 2003.

Moved to another Region-Now Windows XP

With Windows XP a redesigned user interface (including an updated Start menu and a "task-oriented" Windows Explorer), streamlined multimedia and networking features, Internet Explorer 6, integration with Microsoft's .NET Passport services, modes to help provide compatibility with software designed for previous versions of Windows, and Remote Assistancefunctionality. (Wikipedia)

We could have the internet as it is now permitted by the computer unit design but we lacked internet connection and access.

We have just relished on audios and videos through the CD player. Of course the basic were papers such as reports, liturgies for church serivces and worships were printed and photocopied no longer on a typewriter.

Exploring on the Internet

In 2013 we were assigned to a local church provided with internet connection because of the PLDT landline connection. The primary purpose is to have a telephone connection with the parishioners in times of their need. Internet accessibility was just an addon.

This time we were able to expose ourselves to Facebook connecting with families, friends and fans and explored on the internet for research.

Other than research and connecting with other people one exprience has imprinted in my mind one thing I can never forget which I regret I cannot share it with you. But that was really a dreadful day in my life that I will never do it again.

Thank you for reading and see you on the next episode of my experience.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Glad you finally found the internet, and then WA. Have a great holiday and best of luck in 2019.

Yes, Fran, it's such an interesting part of our modern life.

Very intriguing story, Jimmy.

My first computer purchase was back in 1984.
Very expensive. It was for a business that my wife and I were running.

I'll join you on the next episode. You have interesting stories to tell.

Thank you.

Merry Christmas and many happy returns moving forward.

Paul.

Thank you, Paul. Hahaha.
May we all have a prosperous New Year.

All good, Jimmy.
Paul.

Sending the same wishes back to you.

Many blessings in the New Year.
Debbie

Thanks, Debbie, may the whole family of yours enjoy the Christmas celebration and may its spirit will continue with you through 2019.

Hi Jimmy
I can relate to your journey
I come from an era of using a twin floppy drive computer (no hard drive) - telex & adding machines.
Rapid progress over the last thirty years to now having a mobile phone with thousands more storage & effective computer capabilities & this will continue unabated in the future.

Sending you my best wishes for Christmas & the New Year.

Denis

Thank you, Denis. Yes, technology will continue until human exists.
But wisdom is useless if this technology will usurp human knowledge of the provider of all things.

Enjoy your holidays and happy New year to you and your family
Tommy

Thank you, Tommy. May you have a wonderful 2019.
