Comments! Approve or Disapprove! What Guidelines Do We Go By?
A Quick Hello!
Helloooo everyone at WA. I've been away from our active platform for a while now. Mostly trying to concentrate on writing more articles' for my site as well as earn some credits to receive comments to my site. So, I've been quite the busy bee. I hope everyone is doing well and seeing success with your sites as well as your rank progress on the platform, for those who take such awesome interest in helping as many people as they can. I look forward to offering more help on the platform as I become more skilled and knowledgeable. For now, I need to learn and be better at what I am working on.
What Am I Working On Right Now? Giving The Best Comments I Can!
One thing I can say about writing comments on other people’s site is that I do not take it lightly. When I read you guys’ articles', I try my hardest to comment in a way that will add value to the site I am commenting on. This is hard work! I’ve read a lot of articles' within the past month and trying to formulate a good comment is truly a skill that needs to be learned, especially when you are on a platform like Wealthy Affiliate and you are not just a regular person who googled and found the site. I find it exceedingly difficult to comment from that point of view, but I also feel that if I can do that, and nail it, it will be more valuable to my fellow WA’s site. Heck, sometimes I make the cut and sometimes I don’t. I discovered when I don’t make it on someone’s site, I should probably keep a copy of my comments before I submit them so I can go back and try to figure out why I didn’t make the cut. Then improve from there.
Receiving Comments – What guidelines should I go by?
I remember when I first started receiving comments my emotions were getting the best of me. Approve – Disapprove – My goodness the last thing I want to do is disapprove someone’s comment. I did not really know what I was doing as far as having some type of guidelines to go by. However, there were some that I obviously knew I could not put on my site and I was heartbroken. I never want to hurt anyone’s feelings and I know firsthand how difficult it is to write a good quality comment.
How I Handle Comments!
Whenever I write comments I make sure I re-read that comment over and over exactly the way I typed it so that I can make sure I did not misspell any words, miss a block of wording, and use obvious incorrect punctuation. I also make sure that my sentences make sense. There have been times when I re-read my sentences and thought – What? That does not sound right. LOL! The key is making sure you catch those errors.
So that is what I look for. Some comments that have a misspelling or a missed period, we can easily go in and edit, but if the comment has an enormous amount of misspellings, punctuation errors, and sentence structure errors, well, that is not going to work out to well.
Some Comment Guidelines I’m Trying To Develop!
When making comments, please be sure to read the articles'. I know some are long, but you would want others to read your articles' and make the best quality comment on your site as well. When you work hard to earn quality comments you deserve to receive quality comments.
- Comments should have good sentence structure (in other words it should make sense).
- Comments should not have a lot of grammatical errors.
- Comments should not have a lot of punctuation errors.
- Comments should not sound like your giving feedback like we do on the feedback section of WA.
- Try to add the articles' keyword/title within the comments. Try to make it flow naturally within your comment.
Considering we will all try to get a lot of comments, I am interested in knowing from others how you feel about adding the keyword/title naturally within the comments. Could this cause google to look at this as keyword stuffing and possibly cause our sites to be penalized?
- Comments should show relevancy to the article. (This is when you have an idea the article may not have been read, especially when it comes back within a minute or two of your request).
- Comments should follow the request that was given. For example, if a request was for questions, opinions, and discussion only. That means that offering your experience was not exactly the type of comment they were looking for.
- Comments should come from the point of view of a visitor from google who was looking for what you are talking about in your articles'.
I think this is especially important when we are commenting on people’s reviews of Wealthy Affiliate. Even if you are a part of the platform you should focus on commenting as if you were just a person who found the site from google and is looking for an opportunity. Then express interest in the program through your comments.
Having a lot of comments from WA members giving their experiences may not be valuable to the site as it may appear biased when actual visitors from google visit the site. They may think the comments are not genuine and are only trying harder to promote the product. We are already doing that with our reviews there is no need to do that within the comments.
At the end of the day we all know how difficult it is to comment on our fellow WA’s websites. Not to mention, how much work we put in to earn credits to receive comments to our own websites. Offering 2 comments to receive 1 comment to your website or a combination of offering 1 feedback and 1 comment to earn that 1 comment to your site is a lot of work and we all deserve the best from each other when making comments on each other’s websites.
Paying it forward is a beautiful thing because we are all helping each other to succeed. When I comment on your sites, I try my hardest to take special care because I want all of us to succeed.
Much Success To You All!
Please feel free to let me know your opinions about this post. I am extremely interested in knowing how other’s handle approving/disapproving comments.
- Do you think this is too harsh?
- Have you had to disapprove a comment or many comments?
- What reasons did you give?
- What type of guidelines have you established when handling comments?
- Should the title/keywords of the article be used in comments? Will this cause google to penalize the site?
- Do you edit some comments? What type of edits do you do?
- Is this really a big deal?
Let us all help each other get better and explore other ways of looking at how to approach this subject matter and help our future Wealthy Affiliates.
Kyle, if you come across this post please free to add any additional expertise about offering and receiving comments.
Before I go, I need to give some…
SHOUT OUTS!
I could not leave until I take a moment to give a huge shout out to all my fellow WA’s. I have witnessed some amazing websites with awesome content. I read every article and have been so amazed by the work a lot of you have done. I am no expert at writing articles' and blogs, but I know just from working on my site, that it is not easy trying to write good quality content and use imagery that works well with it. I've been so inspired by each of your websites that I've had the pleasure of commenting on. So, a big Right On to all of you and keep up the amazing work.

Great post but I will be brief as I always get into hot water on this lol.
There are loads of views and you will quite rightly get them here and all are fair and relevent. We all run our business diffferently. No bad thing!
My key simple rules are:
Did they write and comment as a "reader" to my blog? Yes big tick
Do I always respond ? Yes big tick ( they are my customers/ clients/ readers )
( There was a debate about declaration of interest and there are differing views) I'm for.
Do I edit comment comments ? No its their view so ..Big Tick ( if I did I would say it was an fair and abriged view of their comments, for example if length was an issue)
The system rejects those that have nothing to do with the brief anyway.
Do I reject comments, only if they breach my code of standards, and decency and are offensive to my audience. Debate is otherwise good and creates trust. I have never rejected one.
Not everyone shares my view. Personally I have been rejected once for not speaking properly ( to be fair I am welsh ) but otherwise my acceptance rate is 99%.
The comments I get are amazing many full of personal stories and I am exceptionally grateful for them I really am. Without it my blog loses it purpose.
I am not sure that is helpful on any level but you asked. :) All the best and I am sure the debate will range on!
Hi Phil, this is very helpful. I am always trying to learn from others who know more than me and I appreciate and consider all points of views.
I hadn't thought about someone commenting in a way that is indecent or offensive so I can appreciate your view on that. I have not experienced this yet and if I ever do in the trash it will go and I won't think twice about it. Thank you for bringing that up. Reduces the shock factor. lol
I appreciate you taking time to read my blog and express your thoughts on the subject. Thank you!
Leaving comments can be difficult, but rewarding. I always feel that I learn so much from reading other people's posts. But then there is that disappointment when what I read is clearly not written by them and is just a series of copied and pasted content. When that is the case, I usually just move on and don't leave a comment.
When I receive comments, I wish people would really take the time to read the articles. It's so disappointing when I ask for a comment and get something that vaguely resembles a whole lotta junk!
This issue has been ongoing. But I love the ideas you have for setting criteria! If I may, I would like to use your ideas, as well!
With 2020 Vision,
Karin 😎
Hi Karen, thank you for the compliment. We are all learning and getting ideas from each other. This is what makes Wealthy Affiliate such a great platform.
Thank you for reading my blog.
Yes. You are welcome! Thank you for the ideas. I will be implementing several of them!
With 2020 Vision,
Karin 😎
I have written blogs around this in the past and not everyone has agreed with my observations.
This is my personal opinion, and based on my marketing background, and the fact that I had an online mail order plant nursery site for many years.
In the real world, the one where you get actual comments from real customers, people aren't perfect .
They are not all Grammer experts and they don't read your complete article ( rarely anyway).
If you were to change their comments because of this, can you imagine what would happen if they returned to your site and noticed the changes? You would lose them.
Therefore it's my opinion that we shouldn't expect perfection from our commenters.
The important thing is that the comment actually shows relevance to the blog and isn't negative.
As you said, you can fix any spelling mistakes.
All the best . Jim
Hi Jim, I appreciate your perspective on dealing with comments from actual visitors. You make a very good point about editing peoples comments and I definitely do not feel that actual visitors should be perfect with their comments.
However, to help our fellow Wealthy Affiliates reach the first page in google by offering comments, and considering we are all in the business of building a business, I just felt that we should at least try to offer the best quality comment that we can for each other. That's all.
I'm always trying to learn so I'll be searching for your post on this subject.
Thank you for reading my blog and expressing your point of view.
Well, I would love it if you left comments on my website :-)
It can be disheartening when you put in so much effort into an article and then you get a generic comment from someone who clearly did not read your article at all ... I once got such a comment on an article about a book I had written years ago, which was stolen by a fake publisher and I got back after a long fight. I used that experience in a blog post, and announced the final release of this special book, and someone commented, just copy pasting a few things I had written and saying it "was interesting, will share on social media" ...
I always read the full article before leaving comments. I take written or mental notes, and when I can I usually ask one or more questions. I always think, "is this the kind of comment I would like to receive on my website?" If the answer is yes, I click on submit :-)
Hi Christine, thank you for the compliment. I just try to give a good quality comment. I'm still learning.
It is disheartening to receive comments that show no relevancy to the article, but I think as long as we continue to help each other we can help others including ourselves to improve on offering comments.
I like the idea that you take notes. I should start doing that cause I find myself going back over the article. That's just me.
Thank you for reading my blog. I'm still trying to learn how to write an effective one.

A lot of comments are half-heartedly written and sometimes would comment on content rather than general comments or whatever. I should approve or disapprove. So I do what is to be done.
Hi Florentino, I like your straight forward no non-sense approach. If you approve or disapprove, you do what needs to be done. I can appreciate that.
Thank you for reading my blog and giving your opinion.
You are welcome. And Thanks. I am more on doing consideration than not, to be honest.
