Spam alert - psa

Hey folks,

I had some business dealings that used the Docusign program for some official documents via email.

If you aren't familiar with Docusign, see here.

Anyway, I was on my computer to catch up on all of the emails, and I was surprised to see a Docusign email in my SPAM folder.

As soon as I inspected the sending address, I instantly recognized that the email was sent to one of my websites that is in maintenance mode, and used the contact (info@ domain name) email.

I went to the Docusign website and found out how to handle a suspicious email.

In the legitimate email, within the confidentiality block, there will be an alternate method to use the service, as they will provide you with a code.

In the SPAM email, there was no such entry.

Also, as I have mentioned previously about suspicious emails, (PayPal )if you open the 'sent from' , either by hovering or opening in the method provided by your email service, you will be able to see the actual email address used to send the email.

In this case, and I checked it against the other valid Docusign emails, as they use a standard sending email.

The fake email used the same email sending address with one exception, they used Capital letters and a different number.

This is only an example:

The email: acf_ma3@docusign,

vs SPAM email:

acf_MA2@docusign.

I opened the full header information, copied it and sent the extended header info inside of the forwarded email to Docusign's spam department.

Had I not known what to check, I might have clicked that link.

That's how official this email looked.

As to the PSA - Public Service Announcement, be very careful when opening a real looking email that ends up in your spam folder.

Sometimes, a new email will appear in your spam until you 'whitelist it', ie, validate the email.

However, when you receive an email in your spam folder AFTER you have had dealings with them previously, that is your red flag warning.

So, when in doubt, send the email to the spam folder and delete. If the email was in the spam folder, you can hover your mouse over the sent email to see the true email address. If spam, delete the email without opening.
