Gypsy kids: our secret world.

Well I have just seen the second part of this new tv series. I have always found the subject of gypsy/travellers interesting. I am so far feeling this tv series is painting these people in a good light.

Although tonight's one as seen through the eyes of a child mostly ,has really opened my eyes. It's shows that these children have the freedom of the out doors. And back to our sorts of child hoods. You no climbing trees getting plenty of cuts and bruises, riding bikes, kicking balls all sorts of street games. Instead of being locked up in front of computers mobile phones. These kids are around animals mostly, horses, ponies. Showing responsibility and a knowledge in the animal and its care and needs. Plus the gypsy background in keeping and selling horses etc.

Then you have the schooling issues. If these children are settled gypsys they want to have the right to education like all other children. Though often come across prejudice. Or on the other hand what they call us as gorgers then gorger children can often think bad of gypsys and be scared. So often the two don't mix and can cause lots of issues. Or if the child is a traveller they go from school to school and often missing lots of education. Either way most don't get the education of other children brought up in settled homes of non gypsy origin. There was this one boy that had been to 9 schools no child should go through that let alone before the age of 12. This child was trying so very hard to fit in and also to learn. Sadly once every child he had built a friend ship up with found out he was a settled gypsy they were no longer wanting to be friends. This boy how ever was determined to be a pilot. At 12 he raised chickens sold eggs a pond delivered the eggs to the adults he had managed to break the boundaries with. He was home schooled by his mum that luckily did have a form of education and very good morals. He saved his earnings and had some pilot lessons. His parting shot was. "No matter what obstacles people try and put in your way. If you want something bad enough you will get there" this really resingnated with me if this young boy can over come the bullying and non school education can show such pure determination so can we all. If we are passionate enough about it.

There are good and bad in everyone. Black, white, gay, straight or gypsy/traveller. Treat everyone at face value and get to know them. Never judge on your previous exsperience. A lot of the gypsy morals are fantastic. Sadly some spoil it for others. If we are trying to change racism then we should change our mind frame on gypsys also. As should they of us. I don't like the mess they often leave behind of the cost to clear up. Though the same goes for many people that miss treat social housing and leave a mess. We can all learn from one another. There is room for us all. Let's live and let live.

Indeed... obstacles are there to be gotten over.

I loved the story of the mans achievements and it does show that if you want something then you make a plan and work out how you are going to get there. So many people nowadays just expect things to be given to them and that just isn't life.

People have to show three things to me, honesty, integrity and loyalty, if I can see these things in a person then I don't worry about what their background is, and to put it in perspective how many corporate and privately educated people could show you all three of those traits?

I've been watching that too :)

What do you think of it Jude what are your views.?

I veer between feeling sorry for the kids who want to learn to feeling angry that the adults don't get the same treatment as we. (the tax-payers) do.

I totally know what you mean. It seems very un fare that we as tax payers have to pay so we have hospitals Dr schools etc. yet they don't and still have the same right to use what we do. They always seem to afford nice things that we often have to take a second job etc. what I did not like is traveling gypsies parking up and when they get evicted the children have to see some really unsettling scenes xx

Great post about life's in general, I am impressed with those that go for their dreams, everybody should be treated the same. there is nobody that is special in this world we are all human.

Exactly and I love it when children have dreams and aspirations. Last week there was a young girl that wanted to do modeling. Though they said she would probably have to cut her hair. And although she thought she wanted it so badly. Her hair was non negotianable. As she felt her hair was what represented ear as her. Where as this weeks young lad really was going for his dreams. I'm hoping he will go far. X

Hope so too, and for the little girl cutting her hair, why could she just not cut it and wear a wig, they do this in the movies.

Thank you for an honest look at a culture that time forgot in many ways.

Wow that was quick I hope you liked it. Equality is something I feel strongly about. Have you seen the program.?
