Quick & Easy Monetization Formula - Eureka!
Okay - This a very quick, ill-planned, but I believe important blog. This is something I've just uncovered for myself while brainstorming with another WA member; this is not well thought out because I know if I don't write this down immediately I will forget.
I do have a point. - Monetization! I believe most of us would agree that in one way or another we are here to introduce an interesting idea to the web, that will in turn attract an audience we have chosen to target, and that audience will in turn leave us some money for something of value. Whether its for your fancy car, or your non-profit needs funding, revenue is at some point the important ingredient in running a viable business.
Each audience or niche you are working with has some common interests. These groups of people tend to buy certain things and are tempted to investigate links to very specific subject areas. Advertisers have already figured this out and there is a ton of media out there where we simply need to copy the formula. Yes that's italicized because this is where I realized the formula is out there, and practically free.
Let me explain how this came into my thick head tonight. I was brainstorming with another WA member who might write about something very specific to running. I was doing some creative thinking and at one point I imagined a Runners Wold Magazine. (If you aren't familiar with this magazine, its sort of a thick glossy magazine with advertising everywhere. Its a very successful publication.) So I then I thought, why not look at who and what the magazine works with to promote running, and try to get links and ads for your running site in the same way. Some of these magazines spend tens of thousands of dollars figuring this stuff out. For just a few dollars we can go to a news stand and pick it up for ourselves. Open up a magazine that caters to your audience - there might be more than one publication. Do what they are doing. Consider the links and products they are using and how that might monetize your site.
You certainly don't have to produce an online magazine, but wouldn't it make sense to have some great ads and links for products and services on your pages? I would venture to guess that the professional advertisers and magazine moguls have people that are presenting things we'd never have thought of on our own. What a bonus for us! The formula is there for the taking and why not produce a great site and get connected with some great products and services just like the glossy magazines out there?
*My disclaimer - do not plagiarize! "They" will find you, taunt you, and call you a dummy!

HAHA! you may have me there - However, maybe one of the manufacturers has a trade journal specific to their industry - just a thought. Also - as you know when people buy a stove they often time look at extras and furnishings and equipment to go a long with the stove - its a big deal for people. Maybe some of the home design / decor magazines might have some ideas.Might use some time standing flipping through different mags but may produce some ideas on products to promote in compliment to your focus.
Maybe you need to start the online magazine in this case hah
thanks for taking a look at for your feedback
I get where you are coming from. I personally spent $1200 of my own money for a 1/4 page add in a high-gloss fancy local magazine the hit thousands of households. The ad ran for 12 months that is why the lower cost. What did I receive in return for my investment. 1 phone call no email, no clicks on the website (not my site with wa) this was my former employer. My employer did not cover the cost.
The big boys have a bigger advertising budget that can reach a larger audience than my budget can. Just be very careful if you decide to travel this road.
Hey there Valerie - thanks for reading the post. The idea here is not to compete with the big advertisers, but rather o spend the time to run those ads and links on your site.
It would be like featuring a favorite type of bicycle seat and linking to Amazon, or performance where people could buy that seat.......
Amazing! This is such a great post to build on the ideas we discussed. Thank you for sharing.
Great post! Now, if only I could think of a good niche to apply this principal. I'm stuck on that part. Thanks tough Zentrader for sharing this valuable information!
think about what magazines you like to flip through, cars, sports, etc. It might be a place to find that niche. Heck it might be a matter of noticing what in those magazines sells and focus on that.... just a thought.
If all else fails WA bootcamp is worth the work while you figure out your niche. You'll get there - I know you will
Thank you Suz!!! I was just going to send this to you for an opinion - so happy to see you beat me to it.... looks like you are doing well. I was away for a bit but I'm back and rearin to go!
Sending you best wishes!
.....and sue your panties off....hahaha Great post....I have a small stack I'm rifling through right now....yeah, the big glossies collect big bucks for their ads...even the small ones.
Great post....thanks so much for sharing! Much success on your projects, too.

Good post Greg! It is something I have already incorporated in my thought processes. Using ideas from print can be very helpful! As Kyle has stated many times, you can use anything as long as you use it to just influence your thoughts. Thank you for sharing this with us today!
