Why I Join Wealthy Affiliate - Only Now
October 2015 - here I am in Melbourne again. I have a better reason this time to leave Singapore - away from the haze that started sometime in July (if my memory doesn't fail me) and is expected till end of the year.
Why have I joined Wealthy Affiliate? Honestly, I've been dabbling in "making money online" since 2010, getting in and out of various programs that draws income, but not as much as I'd like. And yet, I kept on jumping from program to program, the latest of which was trying my hand at selling T-shirts online.
As I invested in 'tools' and advertising, it dawned on me there was hardly a surplus - whatever that I made could never top what I put in.
Then I tracked what I had done since 2010 and realized that I HAD made money selling some online membership site and physical products. In fact the membership site (of which I'm no longer a part of) was giving me steady recurring income. How did I do this?
When I began in 2010, I created sites as platform to promote different products. It was hard work - creating sites, finding keywords, incorporating content, promoting the sites.
It was draining but I got results. Wasn't instant but I actually made money. I didn't realize then that it was a proven means to making money online - creating sites that people find through their searches in the search engines.
Over time, I guess I got lazy, became impatient and wanted the easy way out - hence my sporadic jumping from one program to another. By then, I had gotten rid of my sites which were making money. Silly, I agree but at the time, I just wanted to generate income fast.
September 2015 - I bought a video-making software that had upsells, one of which went up to more than US$1K. Thank goodness, I still have my sanity! I didn't buy it but as I was checking this particular upsell, I came across Wealthy Affiliate. Incidentally, the three websites I found were all by 'Wealthy Affiliate graduates' who came across as trustworthy and sincere in their take on various online business-related products that I was researching. I was smitten.
So my research on those overpriced products turned into Wealthy Affiliate. Something clicked as I was reading the essence of Wealthy Affiliate training - create websites, promote products through those sites and draw people's attention. Think about it. People who are interested to buy something would most likely look up search engines to see if the product is worth buying, right? I mean I was doing just that when I was researching the upsell. I had failed to realize that this is the VERY FOUNDATION of an online business that I should have scaled up, that I knew about but failed to hold on to when I started back in 2010.
Just like my daughter who needs motivation in her college life, I too need that push to ensure success in this business. Now, here I am in the Wealthy Affiliate and somehow, I just feel that I can get what I need here in this community.

Maybe both you and your daughter need to find your niche! My daughter had a tough time starting college too, but it became much easier when she started taking classes that were actually related to her dreams and were helping her get closer to them. Best wishes to you both!
Maybe the two of you should work on WA together and create a website together. Teamwork!
