When I was growing up in a conventional Japanese family, where my mother's favourate phrase was to 'be proper', I rebelled against this idea. To this date, I dislike this phrase.
What does 'being proper' mean anyway?
In my mother's world, it was to behave in an acceptable manner. Oh, bless her.
I don't recall her ever telling me the definition, but I interpreted it as; going to a university, getting married, being a good wife and a mother. I don't really recall her encouraging me to have my on career or being financially independent.

But I was an ambitious youth and wanted success of my own making but did not receive an adequate guidance in career or business.
I have struggled with this conflicting ideas for years. A part of me wanting to dedicate myself to my man and my children and to be a good homemaker. The other part was always seeking some kind of accomplishment outside the domestic life.
I've ended up not accomplishing much for myself until now.

Since joining this community, I have changed my mindset. I AM being proper.
I am running my own 'proper' internet business 'properly'.
