Yes, We Can Learn From Our Children

So many times we talk about what our children learn from us as parents. I believe we can also learn from our children.

The reason I say that is because as the academic year has come to a close, my daughter has been accepted into her second international honor society. She amazes me because she really pushes herself to be the best she can be.

She did not have an easy spring semester in college. Math and statistics have never been her strenghts - and she will be the first to admit that. She had a difficult statistics course this semester, but the one thing she never did was give up. She took it upon herself to get a tutor and do what she needed to do to make her way through the tough stuff. Then to end up being accpeted into her second honor society was just icing on the cake. I am so very proud of her.

Having said that, though, it has taught me a lesson as well. I have been going through a really tough time recently and I have felt I wanted to give up. I have felt like walking away from everything at times - yes, even WA. But then, I think of her and I realize I CAN'T give up. She never gave up. When I think of her, it gives me the strength to move forward.

Yes, we can definitely learn from our children. I have definitely learned from her.

Thanks to my daughter for never giving up and helping me move forward as well.

What have you learned from your children?

Have an awesome day / evening.

I have a 16 year old who finds it difficult to sleep until she has finished a task. She is a really smart kid who does not give up at all, and this has given me inspiration to continue.

She usually rewards herself by sleeping for very long on weekends :))

What a kid!

Awesomeness!
Mojalefa.

That IS awesomeness!! Great for her...rest is a great reward.

Yes very true my daughter is also a go getter and won;t let anyone stop her. She gives me quiet encouragement and reinforcements but I don't let on to her.(I'd never hear the end of it,)

It's wonderful you obtain encouragement from her. Maybe one day in the future you can share that with her because that is truly special. Have an awesome day / evening.

Good post, thank you Yvette, Best Alan

Thank you, Alan. I appreciate it.

Certainly delicious food for thought

Yes and thank you! :)

Great post Yvette. I hope your daughter knows what an inspiration she has been to you when you needed it.

Congrats to you for hanging in there and to your daughter for her achievements as well.

Rick

Thank you, Rick, for all your kind words. Yes, she knows how I feel in that regard and we are positive influences for each other. That's what makes it so great.

Thank you for stopping by.

Great post I really enjoyed reading it. I am sorry to say that I don't have children but I do agree with you that we can learn from our children and congratulations to your daughter for not giving up at all.

Thank you very much for that. I appreciate all the kind words :)

You are very welcome

That's awesome...congratulations! My kids are sick and I've had to learn a great deal in order to help them. Resilience, appreciating the good moments, reaching out and accepting help from those you never thought you would and standing for the truth and what's right no matter who you have to stand against...and icecream fixes almost anything. :)

Thank you for stopping by and for sharing that information with us. I see you have learned some amazing things from your children. Those are all very good qualities to learn. You are a strong mom - you got this!

And you are right - we all scream for ice cream! LOL.

In my background environment I am learning from my teen grandson how to fight all the wars in history (Fortnight addict) Yvette!

Wow! And who said learning is not fun! Love it.

Hi Yvette, sorry to hear that you’ve been going through a tough time.

Ilove your post and I couldn’t agree more, our children can teach us so much. Mine are still small, they are nine years old, and I feel like I learn from them all the time. I learn because I reflect on things that they say, and this probably sounds lame but I have learnt to be a better person because of my children. All the behaviours I want to see in them I know I need to role myself.

Your daughter sounds amazing and you must be really proud of her. I’m glad that you’re still here st WA and not giving up.

~ Melissa

Thank you Melissa for all your kind words. I don't think you sound lame at all. I totally understand how you feel like a better person because of your children. That's awesome!

I am really proud of my daughter. She's such a great young lady. I admire her.

I am not going to give up....I promise :)
