Do you have blogger's block? It happens to the best of us.

If you ever find yourself struggling to pump out that article, here are some of the things that help me personally overcome blogger's block...

Tip #1: Take a Stroll & Breathe in Some Fresh Air

This one's a classic cure for writer's bloc- err, I mean blogger's block.

Yes, taking a 15 minute stroll in nature to clear your head can do wonders. Go outside, take a whiff of that fresh air and get some oxygen flowing to your brain.

Tip #2: Change Your Scenery

When I'm blogging and I hit a wall, I normally pick up my laptop and drive to the nearest starbucks or other small cafe.

I find that even a change in scenery changed the way I think and allows my brain to produce different ideas. I also love to sit down with my laptop out in nature.

If you just pick up and move to another location to start working, it's almost like a quick shock to your brain...

Your direct environment influences your thinking and the quality thereof.

Tip #3: Blase Some Tunes/Binaural Beats

When I can't stay focused on a blogging task, I plug in my headphones and listen to a 40hz Gamma Binaural Beat.

I find that it helps my brain focus on what it is I'm writing. It really is like a digital drug like Ritalin.

If you prefer to get out of a funk by listening to your favorite kind of music, that works too. I find music that evokes some kind of emotion works best.

Oddly enough, I find I become a great writer when I listen to sad music. Bizarre. Find out what works for you best. We're all different.

Tip #4: Coverse With An Imaginary Character

Ok, this one's kind of unorthodox... Bear with me though.

The next time you're having blogger's block, I want you to close your head and do this mental exercise for 5 minutes. (It's actually very fun.)

Close your eyes. Now, picture a long table in front of you...

Sitting at that table should be some fictional (or non-fictional) characters that you know of and wouldn't mind having a conversation with.

Now start having a conversation with them in your mind. Yes, start having a full blown conversation with them... all in your head.

This visualization exercise is actually scary powerful. The more you do it, the more fun you can have with it...

It will get your creative juices flowing and your mind wandering in new directions! (This is personally one of my absolute favorite creativity exercises.)

Tip #5: Meditate Like a Buddhist Monk

I have been meditating for the past 8 years... every. single. day.

Yup, I never miss a beat. It helps clear my mind and lets my thoughts flow more smoothly.

If you're stumped while thinking of what to write, take a 5 minute quiet break and clear your mind. This will work wonders for you once you become proficient at it.

Once your head is nice and clear, return to blogging and I can guarantee it will come more easily to you.

Out of all 10 of my tips for overcoming blogger's block, this is the one I use most often as I find it works best for me.

Tip #6: Freewrite Some Thoughts Out Into Reality

This is an extremely useful technique I stumbled upon accidentally. I remember clearly one day I was blogging and became stuck.

I quickly became frustrated, and just started writing whatever the hell popped into my head. What happened next was nothing short of extraordinary.

I found that my free writing was gold. The moment I stopped trying to write off a script, the words just started pouring out.

Tip #7: Chug Some Caffeine (5 Coffees Should Do the Trick)

Brew some coffee or tea.... just get some caffeine in you.

It will cause your mind to speed up, and that can help push you out of a mental writing block. Simple yet surprisingly effective.

Tip #8: Write BEFORE You Feel "Inspired"

Yes, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU FEEL LIKE IT!!!

I had to learn this one the hard way. For years I tried to write from a place of inspiration.... that is never the way to go.

I had to learn (painfully) that the only great way to write, is to write forcefully, and then from that inspiration will emerge.

If you wait to be inspired before you write, you will fall short every single time. Don't wait till you're inspired. Start writing, and the inspiration will arise spontaneously.

Tip #9: Take a Freezing Cold Shower

This one is kind of hardcore... No denying that.

Despite that, I do this one practically every day, and I find that it's incredibly helpful at getting me outside of my head and into my creativity.

Something happens to your mind when you take a cold shower...

It shocks the crap out of your nervous system, and your brain releases a shot of adrenaline into your body.

When you shock your body with ice cold water, certain parts of your brain light up and become activated.

I've found that this technique is great for when I'm stumped for writing words as it changes my patterns of thinking.

Tip #10: STOP Planning Your Posts

Writing a post outline can speed up your writing. It’s a proven technique. But it can also suck the spontaneity and joy out of writing.

When you find yourself bored with a particular blog post, don't be afraid to figuratively "ball up the paper and throw it out".

You can always start fresh. Write whatever pops into your mind...

Instead of sticking to the script, make it up as you go along. This can make for some great unexpected blog posts.

Wrapping Up

Now that I've shared some of my own personal methods of tackling the dreaded "blogger's block", I expect you to put these into action the next time you come up against a wall.

Obviously some of these are going to work for you and some of them are not...

It's up to you to test all of these out and see which ones fit you best personally.

Don't ever let blogger's block get the best of you. You have to remember that it's temporary, and it, like everything else, will pass.

Thank you Koda. 10 good tips on breaking the writer's block I use some of these myself:

- 5 minutes meditation
- classical music
-COFFEE break 🤩
- Fresh air
- Physical exercise - for me this is unbeatable

My most creative moment during the day is in the morning during the first hour after waking up. Then the words are just pouring out., but it must be after a good cup of coffee😄☕️

Roy

Interesting! I can definitely get onboard with the meditation and the classical music! I do those as well.

As for the first hour waking up, I repetitively remind myself that the first 7 minutes I wake up each day ate the most important minutes ALL day! :D

Most if not all of us have been there. I agree that a change of scenery can be really helpful when I get stuck, long with caffeine of course. Too bad coffeehouses are shut at the moment.

Thanks for sharing what works for you.

Erica

It is too bad that coffee houses are closed right now!! Hah.

And thanks for commenting!

Hi Koda,

Thank you for the information. This is REALLY something that i needed. as I read though your blog, I realized that my biggest struggle is to stop trying to get the right terms all of the tie, and start typing as I would speak to someone.

I believe tip #4 have changed my perspective, and tip #7 ALWAYS works for me (even if I am not writing).

So, thanks again and i will surely try it out

Wayne, glad I could help! As for #4, it is by far the most powerful. It's an amazing imaginary tool I was taught by a mentor of mine. Try it out, it takes on a life of its own!

Koda

Great post! changing the scenery always works for me.
Thanks

I also love that option. Different places and atmospheres change the way I feel, which changes the way I think, which changes my writing style.

Thanks for the comment, Nadia!
