Is there a way to crawl my entire site in search of a certain word? Sort of like the find and replace feature in MS Word?

This is what some SEO tools do, and if it was not done correctly, could cause havoc either with your computer or the search engine. This is why you would need to know the proper coding so that you would not get into major issues.
If you are looking for a free SEO tool, you could give Screaming Frog SEO Spider software. However, SemRush is considered THE best for providing this service.

How do I suspend public viewing until I am ready to publish
Hi - to be honest, it takes a while for Google to index your site, and for it to be ranked high enough to be seen. The age of the site plays a part in Google's view of it, so the sooner it is live, the better.
You can use a "Under Maintenance" plugin, or keep your posts as drafts until you are ready to publish them.
