I hate my voice and I am making YouTube videos
I have done training videos before "in my other life". And now it is time for a YouTube Channel for one of my Niches. This is a completely different deal because, in the other situation, everyone is used to me on webinar trainings etc.
For my Niche videos I have considered getting a professional voice over but that may not be cost effective in the long run. After encouragement from some of the members here I decided to do it myself.
I have spent the whole day on recording and re-recording. I seriously hate my voice! Having to listen to it over and over again was very painful. Anyway I heard myself so much today that I am now almost oblivious to how I sound.
I also played around with mics and the computer and after many tries I found the Apple Mac using its own mic and positioned in particular way gave a better result than anything else. I am sure the technical members here will frown on that and have a more elegant and professional solution, but for now it "did the job"
Onto the next project!

it takes training with a voice coach to sound the way you want to on a video---this is what I've learned---how you sound to yourself on playback is different than you may sound to someone else---I've been doing a weekly radio show on the Internet since 2007 and when I play it back---it sounds different than what I hear while I'm doing it
I guess because I've have limited mobility---I've always tried to do what I couldn't do until it felt comfortable to just do it
Most everyone hates their own voice. Obviously yours must fit the bill or else you wouldn't be being used for you webinars. They would just get your ideas into the hands of a professional voice.
One thing that can be done to overcome voice complex is think Jimmy Durante.

Just a state of mind. Heard or read once that most people thought it was weird or strange listening to their own voice. And it's sometimes the same when people record themselves as they maybe nervous, but you will get used to it.
I think you are right Amar .. the last one I did yesterday was much better than the first one. Cheers, William.
