Self-Worth vs Self-Net
"It is difficult to make a man miserable while he feels worthy of himself." – Abraham Lincoln
At the beginning of success building, it is important to gain self-worth before you gain net-worth
It’s easy to forget that our worth isn’t determined by outside forces, it comes from within. It is not based on what others think of you or the things you have (or haven’t) accomplished. Your worthiness does not rely on how much money you have in the bank or how much debt you’ve paid off. The wages that we earn provide for our lives, but they do not define our lives. Your net worth does not determine your worth as a human. Don’t allow your life’s pursuit to be caught up in the possession of material things – that makes for a nice net-worth, but not necessarily a high self-worth. If you ask me, self-worth trumps net-worth any day.
"We cannot think of being acceptable to others until we have first proven acceptable to ourselves."-Malcolm X
Net-worth: Your assets minus your debts. Self-worth: The quality of being worthy of esteem or respect.
Your true self-worth is up to you. It's how you value yourself so increase it. To have a high level of self-worth means accepting yourself wholeheartedly at all times despite your flaws, weaknesses, and limitations. It’s about recognizing the real value of who you are — right here, right now, at this present moment.
It’s incredibly easy to fall into a rut and become discouraged. With the world constantly criticizing individuals for every little thing and living in a culture that continually praises beauty over substance, it is easy to feel like you are worthless and invaluable. Establishing a strong sense of self and truly loving yourself is a challenging task to master but, as you build your self-worth you are building a fortress brick by brick each day as it grows strong and prominent. Now when the strongest wind, hail or snow pour down and that monstrous thunder shake the ground, your fortress will always be intact.
“There is no value in life except what you choose to place upon it and no happiness in any place except what you bring to it yourself." –Henry David Thoreau
"Strong people don't put others down... They lift them up." -Michael P. Watson
