How do you take care of yourself?

For most people, the first thoughts would be to eat a healthy, balanced diet and get regular exercise and good sleep.

But what about your social connections? Are you taking care of that element of your life?

Human connection is important. After the last two years, statistics are showing that people are lonelier, more depressed and anxious than ever.

Being cut off from seeing others and not being able to have human touch can take its toll both physically and mentally. Emotional stress is real.

I've read where lack of social connection can lead to increased risks for Alzheimer's, dementia, obesity and high blood pressure (probably even more conditions).

Busy lifestyles and our current times have added fuel to this social disconnection and general dissatisfaction.

Why We Need Social Connections

Research has found that having healthy social connections can lower stress, depression and anxiety. It can also help improve self-esteem, empathy and even improve our immune function.

Being with others can help us immeasurably.

Especially in times when we may doubt ourselves, feel lonely or just need to know someone else cares that we are alive.

There is a sense of safety in numbers.

It is good to share, connect and relate with others.

If you live in a place that suffered long and painful lockdowns, you might be able to relate to how wonderful if was to once again share a meal with friends and embrace in a hug.

I know for me, it meant the world.

Who would ever have thought something so basic as seeing other people and spending time with others could be so powerful?

WA Offers Connection As Well

After the last 2 years, we can see just how much people need other people.

Sure, we need time to ourselves to work and get things done. But being able to connect with like-minded individuals here offers a wealth of WAnderful benefits!

This community is full of vibrant, knowledgeable, helpful people from all over. Reach out and learn from others. You'll be amazed what you can learn.

And you might even make a digital friend in time. I know I have.

Stay connected and keep on shining.

Susan

I can relate to isolation even prior to the lockdowns. That is why I looked for online opportunities and found Wealthy Affiliate in 2015.

I was so astounded at the availability of helpful friendly people all looking to achieve online business in some way. Or in fact, already succeeding.

This opened an endless opportunity to learn from being connected here in the WA community.

I agree totally there needs to be a physical representation of connection. A hug, yes is very healing and powerful.

I do find solace in the written words left here in cyberspace and to me, it has a very healing, encouraging, motivating effect when people are given a safe space to express themselves.

I am sure glad I found WA, it is a valuable resource for certain.

Thanks so much, Susan human connection is critical and matters absolutely.

Kind regards
Erica

You are most welcome, Erica. Thanks for sharing that! Online connections will never replace in person ones, but they certainly have a place in filling a void. And WA is the perfect spot to share with like minded people. Take care. 😊👍🏻

Susan,

You nailed it!

Social connections are quintessential.
I have always managed to have some of the best social connections, whether in my family, church or community circles.

The key is to grab about 2 or 3 real gems and hang on to them forever. My 2 besties I have known since kindergarten. My number one bestie I met in college, and she is the real deal.

Before I forget, one of my newest social connections is with my new neighbors Nancy and Mike.

Human connections matter, my friend.

Rachele

That's awesome, Rachele...if we can have just a few real "gems" as you say, then it makes all the difference in the world. Real connections definitely matter. Thanks so much for taking time to read and comment. :-)

Absolutely!

You always add value to our sessions.

Couldn't agree more with this, I tell my son all the time to stop playing video games all summer. He tells me it's his summer break that he should be able to do what he wants to do. I finally had enough when I realized I barely see his face anymore because he locks himself in his room and plays on his phone or tablet or playing video games. This is when Kevin and Son came about here at WA. WA is turning into a godsend he met new people along our journey and started being more active. Great job keep on this topic until you reach as many people as possible.

Kevin and Son

Thank you so much for your positive feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the post. I'm a parent as well and can relate to how video games rob our children. Keep encouraging your son as you are and I'm sure you'll see many positive changes. WA is a blessing for many of us as we can all relate and help each other out. Take good care. :-)

We have been isolated, but I belong to the Pentecostal Chuch in Port Pirie in South Australia.

They have been there through the pandemic.

We ring each other on a regular base.

Even though I am single I feel I belong.

WA has also been there when I get the feeling no one cares.

I can connect with the community to get encouragement.

Thank You for sharing

Elke

Hi Elke...thank you for sharing that and taking time to comment. It is good that you have those connections. They are essential for our well-being. WA also gives us another place to belong and feel supported. Have a great day!

Thank you, Susan

It is so true for some and to a certain extent which may depend on certain factors we have become a more isolated and lonelier group of people compared to the good old day before these so-called advances in technology.

However, it also has many great benefits as well one of those is our interactions with each other here in WA.

To think of how many people we are able to connect with on a worldwide scale is amazing and the many wonderful people like yourself and others we get to meet, chat, and have fun with and for the most part, we have not met in person.

So in a way we are fortunate to do so and being here is a blessing along the way.

Thank you Susann always has been a pleasure to connect with you and also the rest of the community.

Andre :)

Hi Andre...the old days were so much simpler in so many ways. Human interaction was just a given back then. Now it has changed.

I do appreciate your kind words and all your interactions as well here in the community. One good thing about modern technology is that we have the ability to meet others that we would never otherwise know. It is always a pleasure connecting with you as well. 😊

Agree totally Susan the old days were much simpler and many times more enjoyable but having the opportunity to meet people I never thought of meeting is a blessing and an honor as well.

Always brings a smile when I connected with a good friend online.

Thank you and continued blessings sent

Andre
