Follow-Up To Being A Pro
Things to consider & decisions that only you can make:
If you can put yourself inside the mind of the other person and consider & decide from 'Their' point-of-view, you will be on the correct path.
When you evaluate a website (yours or someone else's) the important question is: "What is the PURPOSE of this site?"
You can have different Sites with different Purposes.
If a Site has too many Purposes, confusion results and little or no action will be taken. This Confusion can be avoided by having a 'Network-Of-Sites', each with its own Purpose.
The 'Hub-Site' (Main-Site) acts like a 'Hub' of a wheel with Spokes connecting to the Secondary Sites.
The 'Hub-Site' and its Purpose is the most important part of the ‘Network-Of-Sites’… because:
- This is where you build your – Reputation, Authority, Audience, Following, Relationships, Interactions and most importantly ** Your Brand ** = ‘Who-You-Are’ & ‘What-You-Stand-For’ & ‘Where-You-Are-Going’.
- Humans have ‘Brand-Preferences’. (Coffee lovers love coffee but ‘They’ ‘Prefer’ a certain ‘Brand’.)
- Enhance yourself into a ‘Brand’.
- Having a ‘Comments’ section on the Hub-Site is a great way to augment the Purpose-Of-The-Site. Monitor & Respond to all Comments in a timely manner… show that you care about ‘Them’.
- Frequently, when you have questions, it would be best to pose them to you Audience (for discussion) rather than to a colleague. But don’t leave questions unasked.
- The ‘Purpose’ of the ‘Hub-Site’ is so complex (and Important), no confusion should be added or included, such as: Ads or Promotions. Delegate those other things to the Secondary Sites.
- Link to the Secondary Sites form the Hub-Site AND Link from the Secondary Sites to the Hub-Site (and you may need to Link within the Secondary Sites). This is part of “Siloing” your site.
- Siloing is ‘Organizing’ your Site’s Content, hierarchically. Reinforcing that structure through menus, breadcrumbs, linking and URL structure. Bruce Clay is the master of Siloing (see www.bruceclay.com ). In the Search-Box, at the top of his Site, type the word, Silo.
My way is not the only way.
It is for you to Evaluate, Decide & Choose what to adopt.

Great post this is very relevant to me at the moment as I am planning a new site that will serve many purposes all focused around one niche , would you recommend sub domains for secondary sites
