A Small Setback

What's on my mind? Well, how do I put this?

I spent some time typing in content for a page on my website yesterday, about 2 1/2 - 3 hours worth of work, and THOUGHT I was doing a good job of updating and saving what I had done. Well, guess what, I DIDN'T, and I after I checked out what it looked like on the actual page, I went back to do more I found that all of what I had typed for that segment was GONE!!! About 400 words, and a couple of pictures, had just vanished into, I don't know, what's it called on the internet??

I thought I had backed it up, you know taken ALL the precautions. I was almost done that page and now half of it was gone. I'm repeating myself.

No doubt someone has blogged about this issue before now, but I just wanted to send out a reminder to all, especially beginners, "SAVE YOUR STUFF". Write a sentence or two and save, put in some media and save. Don't write three or four paragraphs and forget to back it up, thinking that you have. And definitely click save before you go have a look at your work of art, (that I was so pleased with). It will save you grief and maybe some of the hair on your head as well.

Anyway, just another heads up. Now, back to the re-drawing board

Wayne,

That sucks! Been there, done that. One thing I do now is to write all of my material in Word, save it to my computer, and then copy and paste it to WP. That way, if there is a glitch, I still have it. The key, however, if you do that, is to paste it into to "text" tab and not the "visual", otherwise you may get some formatting errors due to Word's coding.

Good luck.

Thanks. At the moment I don't have word on my computer. I will be more dilligent in the future

I believe WP also saves automatic drafts of your work. Look at your posts and see if there was some sort of revision done. But support might also be able to lend a hand.

Did contact Support. Did get a response but not sure how to access it.

See if there are drafts on your add new post or add new page section.

Nope. Nothing. Thanks again. Will just have to re-write. It's all a learning process. Man:( I hate to learn the hard way:)

Accessed the response. They said that if I didn't save it there was no way to restore it. They also said to check the revisions tab but there was nothing concerning the lost material. Live and learn. Will just have to re-create to the best of my ability and move on from there. Thanks for your suggestions.

Sorry Wayne, it happens. Just from now on make sure to hit the save draft button while you're writing content.

If you contact support, they may be able to find your content for you. I know they are clever bods and who knows. It's worth a try x

Thanks Jackie. Have sent off a message, will see what comes back.
