Your contact manager can be worth millions of dollars if you manage it correctly.

Harvey MacKay, author of Swim with the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive, said "you can predict the size of someone's income based on the size of someones contact list".

If you want to get something important done who would you call?

You would probably call the person that you knew was well connected.

You would also probably know exactly what they do, Correct?

The most successful people are not just the people with the biggest list, it's the people that have the most quality relationships with their contacts.

You've probably heard the saying "it's who you know that counts". The proper saying should be "it's who knows you that counts".

If you're well connected and people know what you do and they also know like and trust you then they will probable call on you when they need something you offer.

You will become a valued contact for them.

If you are well connected and respected by your contacts and they know, like and trust you, you can probably call on them anytime for just about anything and they would be glad to help you.

So ask yourself these questions about your contacts.

When is the last time you connected with them?

What have you done for them lately?

Do they know, like and trust you?

Do they know what you do?

Will they think of you when the time comes that they need something?

5 Steps for Maximizing The Value of your Contact List

1. Add one new person to your contact manager each day

Look for opportunities to connect with people and get their information. This can be done online, but look for ways to do it in person as well.

2. Get to know them, don't try to sell them anything

Find out who they are, get to know them, maybe even their family. Find out what they do. Get together for coffee or lunch. Make it all about them not you.

3. Make sure they know you and what you do

You don't have to sell them anything, they just have to be aware of what you do. Your main mission is to build trust and have them like you as a person. But make sure they are aware of your business and the services you offer.

4. Stay connected with them

Acknowledge them with calls, emails and greeting cards. Give them a call. Send them a personal email (not an automatic email campaign). Send them a personalized greeting card of Thanks or Appreciation for their friendship. Congratulate them on a success. Invite them to a social event.

5. View your contact list as a place to give rather than get

Look for ways to help the people in your contact manager. Send them a business referral. Ask them what kind of help they need? Take them to lunch or just call to see how they are doing.

Let, me ask you this.

If the house was burning down what would be the first thing you would grab?

If you said my contact manager, you're wrong!

That should already be backed up in the cloud.

Just grab your family silly and get them out safely. ;-)

Keep your contact manager up to date daily.

Do these 5 things daily and you'll have great success in your life.

So true.. I never looked it that way - I like this: "It's who knows you that counts." People only hang around if you have something they need and something that serves them.

Glas I was able to pass something on to you.

Good to know....

Nicely stated...

Thank you for sharing.

Great info!
