Well 76 Cents to be exact but Let's not focus on the actual money because the value is a little higher than just the 76c I made, so far and the 30 dollars I spent to get it. One might say, well that's not very bright, but what did I pay for? Really though being in it for the long haul means that you have to understand your clientele.

Data......Oh sweet data, sing to me

And not that robot character from Star trek either, I mean real hard data that I can use to grow my business. So I wrote this article and Posted it a while back about the top ten puppy teething toys. I enjoyed the article and I submitted it for feedback here on the WA platform. I Even submitted it for comments, gave it social engagement and the results were better than I expected. I received a lot of positive feed back from that initial stage of writing the post.

I am completely new at this, so there are things' that I have no idea about, such as what format works best for my audience. I know We don't need to focus on that per se, but the article is written already and I want some data. What I do have is a starting point.

I ran this ad on Facebook:

But not for the reason you might think.

yes I want engagement with the post, I want to see what people are doing with the post, Google analytic is good for that. But I also want to see who is interacting with my post, who is clicking on The "Learn More" button etc. At this point I just want some general data That I can target, and segment later.

So The first thing in narrowing things' down is to set the demographic.

That's easy, everyone who has a general interest in dogs for this one, and Let's set the Y Values.

  1. United states,
  2. Active online shoppers
  3. Men, women, age 18-65

Oh this was the best 30 bucks I ever spent!

Not only did I make 78 Cents (it's not really about the amount here, it's the action). I learned that the majority of my target market are in fact women. About 93% to be exact, and this is not an anomaly across and specific age group either, it is constant across all age groups.

This does not mean that men did not react to the puppy add, but only about 8%.

So Now I could change the title a little, from work shoes to something else, if I really wanted to go further down the rabbit hole. But i really just wanted a base line. A comparison per se, Now amazon was the desired action in this minor experiment. Which was a conversion, however Amazon does not give you and data to go off of. So I am left with my own mind wondering what type of person actually converted, male, female, age, etc.

Why is that important?

Because the person that took the action is our MVC most valuable customer, The one that is most likely to buy, however there really isn't enough data for that determination.

I really just wanted to see Who, outside of WA would be most interested in the topic Puppies. I have run ads before to get page likes gathering data and found that roughly about 60-80% of my followers were female, So the data I got for this corresponds well.

What I didn't see coming was the 65+ age bracket being super click happy about puppies!, there were a lot of clicks, and nothing to show for that age group, so I revised the campaign, down to the most cost effective age groups, 18-35. We will see what happens there, see if I get similar results.

I know who to try to cater my content towards on all things' puppy related, to get the most out of my articles, and provide the most value to the customer. I also found here that most of these sessions lasted only, about 10 seconds.

So why are people only staying there for 10 seconds?

Lets look at what device they are looking at the post on, so that we can see what they see?

So basically three data captures later, we can see that people are viewing this on mobile, and bouncing almost right away. So I went back and looked at what it looks like and this plug is has my social share buttons blocking some of my content on mobile.

That was kind of bonus for me to go back and fix.

What did I learn? That's really what this is about.

1. My content on Puppies should be written more towards women

2. My ads should be reflective towards my audience

3. I really need to double check for small mistakes like the one in the photo above

4. I am not ready for Facebook ads, lol.

5. Someone converted on mobile and purchased some hockey pucks for an air hockey table! Totally unrelated to my post, but still a conversion happened. Which is really just a bonus, the data is what I was really after here.

6. I also have some preliminary numbers to track, you can see above if I can fix some of these issues and get a lower bounce rate, then I can probably get a higher click through rate. If I can find a formula that Works well for the audience, then I can create the content to cater to that specific type of individual.

Hey hey!

Howdy Jonathan,

Yes the demographics of your audience should be the main focus on how you write your blogs, your style of writing needs to comply to you audience for greater session times.

Very helpful thanks,

Calvin

Great research Jonothan and even though it cost you $30 it was worth it as its given you so much more to work knowing the sex and age brackets to focus on- great stuff
