According to a recent article on the popular tech site Engadget.com https://www.engadget.com/ " CNET has been using a chatbot to generate entire feature stories".

The problem is no one checked the output created from the chatbot and CNET is sitting red faced pretending they were only experimenting with the technology.

After producing over 75 articles using this technology, the Editor-in-Chief for CNET wrote a reply explaining this breach.

Connie Guglielmo explains in her reply that CNET was just experimenting with an AI assist.

The real issue emerges when one reporter noted that there were glaring errors in a particular article on compound interest. The intent of the article was to explain the return one can expect from compound interest with a $10,000 deposit bearing 3% interest, (per the article the depositor would earn $10,300; in fact, such a deposit would earn $300).

Can we say OOPs.

The Editor-in-Chief for CNET responded, "This story was assisted by an AI engine and reviewed, fact-checked and edited by our editorial staff."

The outcry and reaction to the introduction of the ChatGPT, the high-profile AI chatbot in November 2022 is so widespread and controversial that the technology is creating rumbles, curses and praises from all across the world.

Top AI conference bans use of ChatGPT and AI language tools to write academic papers. stating "AI tools can be used to ‘edit’ and ‘polish’ authors’ work, say the conference organizers, but text ‘produced entirely’ by AI is not allowed. This raises the question: where do you draw the line between editing and writing?

More news from engadget.com declares “New York City public schools banned ChatGPT from school devices and Wi-Fi networks"

The New York Times reported that the ChatGPT, this high-profile AI chatbot from OpenAI is such a threat to Google’s core business that the original co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin have been called out of retirement to address it.

So, with Wealthy Affiliates, we are in good company and obviously on the right side of this debate. Keep it original to keep it Google.

May the AI Gods be with you.

Shows the importance of fact checking, Virginia! Excellent post!

Jeff

Thank you.You just made my day!

You're very welcome, Virginia!

Jeff

Well, goes to show that AI chat programs are far from perfect.

Thank you for this informative share!

You are welcome

Oh well... my blogs are genuine
And so are ours...

AI writing is like Spock, artificial and often LONG or FUTILe blabla. Should ALWAYS be mentioned when used... like Hi, I am your blah generator.

Thank you for sharing.
✨👍😎

PS
Seeing a lot of videos with same blah...
Just enumerating. No cohesion.

Better use as reference for your own text

Hi Virginia

AI is not going away and no one can stop it, not even Google. 😎

You are right. The fact is, we don't want AI to go away. AI has some practical and valuable uses. I love the technology, actually awed by it. But you have to get it right. ChatGPT uses information from 2021 and is not updated at this time. Just know what you are doing and fact check and modify. You can't use it right out of the box... that is cheating or trying to cheat the system. Google is hard at work trying to create its own.

Absolutely and very well-said, Virginia! 👍👍😎
