Hi guys, so often times when people enter the realm of internet marketing and WA, the first thing they learn about is targeting niche topics and while the training on that is comprehensive here in WA, many people still have issues picking one.
I know from personal experience, it took me YEARS to truly understand how niches are so important and truly understanding how to pick them out so I know the feeling many people may be experiencing.
The most common problem I find that people have in this initial stage is that they pick the broad topics and/or topics which aren't really niches.Their mindset is usually that a niche topic has a small audience and thus the profit potential is low, whereas a larger topic has a bigger audience which should = more money, which couldn't be further from the truth.
The most common topics I find people mistake as niches are:
Weight loss. This is a VERY broad topic and I could name you 100 different forms of weight loss (which would all be niches by the way) from which you could make a site out of.
Making money. Again, I could name you a bunch of topics stemming from this (stock market tips, making money online, building a physical business, building a store online, ect...)
Health tips. No, this is not a niche topic and it can cover a plethora of options.
Anyway, that's just an example. But onto the main point of this blog post:
What if you picked one of those above topics and/or another one which is TOO broad, not a niche? Are you screwed? No, not really, you just have to adjust and thus I give you the 3 solutions you can use:
1. If you picked a broad topic, and already have a lot of content on the site, do NOT erase it.
Simply start targeting the niche topic that's associated with your website moving forward.
If I started a weight loss blog and wrote 30 articles, that's already 30 articles marinated in Google and giving me some authority, so I can build off that and add more content moving forward on something like getting rid of love handles.

So love handles would be the niche topic and every article I'd write moving forward would target that central topic.
2. If you don't like your niche topic, switch to a different one and do it fast.
Guys, this is one of those things where people pick profit potential > passion and it leads to disaster, trust me. It has to be the other way around. If you have a niche topic you don't like, and don't see yourself liking in the future, switch to a new niche site, and one you like.
Keep the old one around though, in case something changes in the future because the experience you gather from the site you have passion for will actually help you in the future on your old one.
3. What if my domain name is general and I want to switch it to a niche oriented one?
For example: What if you chose a broad topic like fishing and called your site Vitaliysfishingtips.com or fishinglikeapro.com and you discovered you should narrow down your topic to things like:
Fishing tips for beginners.
Reviewing different rods
Reviewing different fishing boats (yeah that's a BIG ONE).
Should you buy a new domain name and start over? Nope.
Should you buy a new domain name and move over the content from the previous site to the new one? I would say ONLY in radical circumstances where the domain name isn't a good one and unrelated but even then, the move is annoying.
The only time you can and should move the domain is if you started with a .siterubix.com website, purchased a domain and need to move it over. In that circumstance, it's easy and fast.
But most of the time, the answer is:
Keep your current domain name. If it uses your real name (VItaliy.com for example) or something that reflects your niche, most of the time, people won't notice or care about it.
So if you keep it, but then use the first tip I gave you which is write niche related content moving forward, you'll be fine.
So as you can see, most of the time, you picking the wrong niche isn't really a problem which requires that you start over (only when you chose one you don't like). Most of the time, it's just a matter of slight adjustment to fix the issue and you'll be fine.
If you have any questions on this post or about your niche topic, do let me know.
