Milestones is the key for Success
Milestones. What are milestones? Milestones are the small building blocks of everyday life’s goals. To go far with a business, you can’t sit on your hand. To keep your business on track, you must put milestones in place to ensure every working piece is working toward the end goal. Once the end goals are reached then another set of milestones is placed down, and so forth.
Like my grandpa told me when I was young while helping him in his garden.
“ ‘You can’t hope for rain for the garden to grow, you must help the plants to grow by giving them water.’ ”
Goals by goals
Like an old block layer, they must start somewhere to build a foundation for a house. Over time, those blocks placed in the direction he dictates start connecting to one another, making one course. Once the last block is placed within the 1stcourse and fits the block layer has hit his milestone goal. Going around again for the 2nd and 3rdcourse, every block is placed where he needs them.
Dan stops to get himself something to drink because it is hot and humid, and the sun is beating down on him. Coming back to pick up where he stopped, he was talking to two more co-workers. The co-workers were telling him a colorful joke. Being polite, Dan laughs and continues with his work. Three quarters from being done on the last course, the block layer notices the blocks are not quite lining up as they should. The old block layers stop to see what is amiss. He notices the gaps between each block where the mortar joins one another are wider than they should be. The old block layer summarizes if he keeps going with his current pursuit, he will come up with more than a 2” gap.
Dan knows that he needs to fix this now or risks the rest of the last two courses not coming out right which could mess with the top plate where the house starts.
Milestones help determine the outcome
Goals can be anything. Whether big or small. It’s best to set small milestones in place and have an end date to reach each milestone. The result is the principle of how you achieved the milestones and what those results are.
Stop and Regroup
Just like milestones (goals) or blocks in this scenario, they must work together going in a one-directional way — forward. If your milestones are unreachable or going in a different direction, then it is time to stop and regroup. Find out what happened. If you find you are at a stalemate, you might have to ask for help. There is no shame in asking for help.

Setting and then achieving what ever milestones we put in front of us are indeed like building a house brick by brick Homer!
No matter how small, if we continue to build on a consistant basis then we will eventually get to where we want to be!
Great analogy my friend and enjoy the rest of your day! :-)
