Greetings To All,

For the rest of this year, I'll be writing weekly posts, of my Healthier Me Challenge!
In each of the posts, I'll be sharing a variety of things: my weekly goals; new recipes; excerpts from books I'm reading; and a few mental obstacles that I'm fighting, to name a few. My hope, is that as I share my journey, I will encourage, inspire and motivate others to reach their Best Self!!!

Weekly Goals:
Instead of focusing on words like "can't", "don't" and "bad", I decided to make some changes. So, each week, I'll adopt a healthier habit, and eliminate an unhealthy habit. It can be anything! The only rule is to adopt AND eliminate!

Week #3
Healthy Habit to Adopt: get 2-3 servings of fruits & vegetables, at least one vegetable has to be a leafy green or raw
Unhealthy Habit to Eliminate: no snacking after 6 pm
* This refers specifically to sweets, which I need to drastically reduce. But for now...
baby steps.

Update:
I awakened feeling a bit "blah" about having had a slice of pizza last night after 11pm; the pizza itself wasn't the issue, it's that I ate after my 8:30pm cut-off. I had received a weather alert this morning, about rain and strong winds for most of the day, so I thought that would be my "out" for skipping my walk. But after tossing it around for a few minutes,
I decided to just get up and go before the weather turned nasty.

I reside in the borough of Queens, New York; I live about a 10 minute walk from Forest Park, which is the 2nd largest park in New York City, right after Central Park. How cool is that! There are quite a number of trails off the main roads (I actually got lost one time for about an hour...not a good thing when you have to pee!); there's a huge gold golf course one one side, and somewhere, there's a horse stable. I can't believe that after living here almost 8 years, I STILL haven't found that stable...but I have seen the horses and the poop they leave behind, so I know it exists.

This picture is on the outskirts to the park; the road to the left, leads to the main road, and my street is just around the corner.

This is one of those mysterious paths I made mention of earlier. It's interesting how something can look so creepy and beautiful at the same time...

And here I am, feeling great because I'm about to finish my walk!

My goal is to just walk a minimum of 30 minutes, 4-5 times a week, which would be a little over 3,000 steps each time I walk. Today, I walked 72 minutes and 7,290 steps!
Pretty good for someone who was feeling blah!!!

*Again, my apologies for the gigantic images...I thought I got it right his time. I'll play around with this later. If I con conquer keyword search, by golly, I can conquer this!!

Strive to Thrive,
Veronica

What have you done? All your pictures aren't showing up. Can you reload them, please?

I love your honesty and I am glad you have found areas of New York that you hadn't found before. I am very impressed by your 72-minute walk, that is a major achievement.

Hmmm....I don't know when that happened, they were fine when I posted them. Hopefully, the others are OK.

Only seems to be on this post so far.

Interesting!
Thanks
Ovidiu

Thanks!

Well done Veronica. We're no good to anyone unless we take care of our well being. Keep up the great work.

Well said Gaylene!

You're living in an interesting place, Veronica! Maybe you should have a dog, so you have to go outside :))
Not sure if it's only me, but I can't see your images... :((
Anyways! Wishing you all the best for achieving your goals!

Hi Gerlinde,

Someone else said the same thing about the images, but they appear on both my phone and laptop, not sure why there would be a problem.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Baby steps is right Veronica. Some can "cold turkey," some of us cannot, so take it slowly and set a reduction goal for a week or month, whatever you feel comfortable. When it is miserable outside if you have stairs in your home or apartment building walk those.

I wish I was a "cold turkey" kinda gal Harvey, lol. Fortunately or unfortunately, I am not, so baby steps it is!!!

Thanks for stopping by Harvey!

I'm praying for you and rooting for you! Queen Veronica took a walk, down the road, around the block. Destination, lose some weight. Yay for you; you're doing GREAT!! Jeannie

We'll keep each other in prayer Lady Jean!!!

Hi Veronica,
I'm happy to know that you are doing what you love!! I can see and hear it in your posts. You're right, you have to make the changes for yourself, not someone else. That's why I do Yoga, it's for me and the changes I want to make in my life. For me the eating will come. I eat well, but I don't get enough of the fruits I need on a daily basis. I buy fruit, but it goes bad before I can finish it. I have tried freezing it, but it just doesn't appeal to me once its been frozen. Vegetables are not a problem for me.
Perhaps you can give me a tip or two on getting more fruits in my daily diet. I would love to hear your suggestion.
Have a great week, take care.
Mary.

P.S. your pictures didn't show up in your post :-{

Way to go Veronica, wonderful best wishes moving to the new you.

Thanks for the encouragement Alex!!!

Veronica, take your position in the Lord and let Him fight for you because the battle is the Lord's not yours. So for this week, be greatly blessed, highly favored, abundantly enriched and deeply loved.

Thank you Nelson!

Believe me, I've invited the LORD into this battle, and I thank Him for all the victories. When I go for my walks, I often pray, starting with giving thanks. I don't take it for granted that I have feet and legs that allow me to walk! He gave me those, not me!

Great attitude, Veronica. With such an attitude it's possible to do seemingly impossible.I think I an in. At least I will try. Walking is not exactly my thing, but I do understand how important it is and I will be trying.:))

I absolutely love walking, so it doesn't even feel like I'm exercising. But in terms of weight loss, I know I'll have to do a lot more strength-building exercises, to speed up my motabolism. From what I understand, they key is to find something you enjoy, so that you're more likely to be consistent.

Thanks for stopping by Vera!

From what I know (you might want to look for more info), first one needs to do a lot of cardio and cut down on food intake of course to lose weight, and only then to do strength-building exercises.Brisk walking can fulfil the purpose to some extent, also rope jumping, dances, aerobics...:)

Yep, that's how I'm starting!

:)
