Greetings To All,

For the rest of this year, I'll be writing weekly posts, of my Healthier Me Challenge! In each of the posts, I'll be sharing a variety of things: my weekly goals; new recipes; excerpts from books I'm reading; and a few mental obstacles that I'm fighting, to name a few. My hope is that as I share my journey, I will encourage, inspire and motivate others to reach their Best Self!!!

Weekly Goals: Instead of focusing on words like "can't", "don't" and "bad", I decided to make some changes. So, each week, I'll adopt a healthier habit, and eliminate an unhealthy habit. It can be anything! The only rule is to adopt AND eliminate!

Week # 23

Healthy Habit to Adopt: Cardio 3x a week
Unhealthy Habit to Eliminate: staying on the Internet too late

Update:

This was an "eeky" week in terms of my health challenge. The first half of the week, New York experienced unusually high temperatures - like in the 90's!!! For those who do not know, I hate the extreme heat! I'm usually like The Grinch for most of the Summer, but go back to my usually friendly self..by October!

In addition to the heat, my sleep issues have not disappeared. Some people gave me some great feedback, so I'm looking into different remedies. Also, I'm looking to give myself at least an hour after using the Internet or watching TV before going to bed. I failed to do that last night, so I'm writing this in a semi zombie-like state...

The good news is that if I get clearance from my insurance company, I'll be able to participate in a sleep study. I actually have one scheduled for this Wednesday, but I made an error with getting a referral from my primary doctor; worse case scenario, I may have to re-schedule, but since they book up very quickly, I would have to wait until the end of July! Let's just hope that all goes well for Wednesday...and of course...I'll give you a report.

So, I'm encouraged by two things: the weather has cooled down tremendously, and that should I ever become a full-fledged zombie, at least I know I can still write!

Have an incredible weekend!

Strive t to Thrive,
Veronica

wow! So sorry for your sleep problems! :( Have you tried taking Melatonin? It's a natural sleep aid! NO chemicals added! I take it to help my sleep..I take the 10MG fast dissolving kind! I would check it out at your nearest pharmacy! You don't need a perscription because it's natural! But it works wonder! Melatonin is what's in turkey, and have you ever noticed how after a BIG turkey dinner, people get tired? Everyone assumes it's all the food they ate! Nope! It's the Melatonin in the turkey! Maybe this can help you out :) Let me know if you try it out, and how it works for you if you do try it out! The good thing is that you can play around with the dosage to get it to the level that works for you because you can't OD on it, and it's natural! Good luck girl :)

Love this post, Veronica it may strike a cord with many of us. Particularly like the one about trying not to stay on the internet too late, at night I guess, there must be some therapy or potion that can help to achieve that, thought it was only me so glad that I am not alone.

Although I turn off all devices at night, I really need to get off the Internet earlier. I'll be making more of an effort to do that this week.

Thanks for stopping by Prof. X!

Well keep up the good work.

Thank you, Theo.

Hi there
well done and keep on your goals and targets
you will get there
cheers PB

I appreciate your encouragement, Phil.

When it comes to health issue I'm a nobody. No knowledge at all. All I know is from my mother. She had a sleep disorder. In the evening she didn't drink anything with caffeine. If I remember right it was between 5 pm and the next morning. Furthermore she went to bed always at the same time. In the evening she was drinking either water or tea based on different herbs. Don't ask me what kind of herbs. I hope I could give you some suggestion but I guess you know all of this already. Right?

Many times, I've read that it's good to go to bed at the same time. I may attempt that one week.

Thanks for reading, Eric.

This is so true about caffeine and going to bed at the same time. Thank you for this additional information.

Have you tried drinking chamomile tea? This is great to help you sleep. This is natural, relaxes the muscle and helps you sleep. Also have the lights down several hours prior to retiring this allows the body to relax. Okay some sort music as well. Do not eat heavy foods late at night. Somebody thing, put honey in your tea instead of sugar and drink the tea hot. You have a great weekend as well.

I only tried chamomile tea once, but I'll try it again. No electronices are on once I go bed and my room is usually pitch black.

Thanks for the tips, Britt!

You are so welcome. There is a tea called sleepytime tea as well that is very good and chamomile is in that as well. I am into natural remedies. I wanted to are one more thing. Some people when they exercise in the evening has a lot of energy and keeps them up, while others can sleep. Exercising for me at anytime gives me energy during the day, and I sleep very well in the evening. This is another factor to look at as well. Blessings to you! Keep doing what you are doing.

I appreciate your what you shared, Britt.

No problem. You are so welcome.

Hey Veronica! Love your attitude!

Thanks!

You make me smile. I know that the heat has been unusually high, but for me , I like it.

Cardio three times a week, sounds like a plan.

Becky :)
