Tesla's most significant inventions are the polyphase system, the rotating magnetic field, the asynchronous motor, the synchronous motor and the Tesla transformer. He also discovered one of the ways to generate high-frequency current, made a significant contribution to the transmission and modulation of radio signals, and his work in the field of X-rays was also noted.
His system of alternating currents made possible much easier and more efficient transmission of electricity over long distances. He was a key man in the construction of the first hydroelectric plant at Niagara Falls.
He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Physics on several occasions, but never received it; one of the reasons is that he didn't want to share it with Edison, and the Swedish Academy didn't want to give awards to each of them individually.
He died at the age of 87, poor and forgotten.
