Niche, niche, niche and more niche!
This term seems to confuse a lot of people when in reality it is such an easy term to understand.
The simplest explanation is: a corner of the market.
So if you have a market that is cars then a corner of it would be car upholstery. If you have a furniture market, a corner of it would be chairs....get the idea?
One thing a niche will do for you is get you a corner of the market....lol !
How do you do that? In famous Teddy (ChrisScott) words..."I'm glad you asked!"
Simple! Do not try and get as many people to your site as possible because that is a waste of time! You want to get people that are interested in you and your corner of the market!
I will use one of my famous analogies. (well, famous in my mind anyway).
I sing and play Jazz guitar, so when I get booked to play at a venue I go and play and sing Jazz guitar......because?.........you've guessed it, that is what the audience expects! Now I could get there and think WOW! such a huge crowd, I'll play some Blues and some Country and I will get more people to book me for their event...$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
WRONG! Not only do I lose my Jazz audience, I lose my credibility, even though I might be brilliant at the other genres as well.
So.....my children (I can finally say 'my children', this is the first time, you heard it here first, because I am now at that age where most of you are younger than me...and the ones who aren't don't care because they want to be younger than me....lol !) focus is what you need!
Narrow down your market, laser focus, find the smallest niche you can find, be an authority in it and people will beat a path to your door. Be passionate about it, shout about it, entertain...do whatever you can but stay focussed! There are a ridiculous amount of people on the net and a lot of them are looking for YOU!
Don't be the 'I am everything to everybody' type of person or the 'no job is too big or too small' type of person. Make your mark...go get 'em Tiger! Be the I only do big jobs, I only help devoted mothers....be brave!
This broadcast has been brought to you all the way from the back end of the planet, Australia, from the comfort of my computer, live as of 15.15pm Sydney time.....
Take a hold of your life and have some fun!

Liz's reply has me singing, (to the tune of Grease is the word....) Niche is the word, it's the word, it's the word, it's got groove, it's got meaning!! :)
I have noticed lately that you are distracted (unfortunately) so I will say I miss you and I hope you are getting everything worked out......oxoxo......I hope you are singing nice and loudly?!
Promite doesn't have the bite of marmite (oh I've just created some awful poetry) but it's really good...I don't think you have it in the UK...
Didn't you catch some of the crap advertising we have in England? Really? "There's no veneer in 'ere'" and such similar drivel!
I love the chimps for tetley's tea....when the piano lands on the son's foot. Dad do you know the piano's on my foot? Dad: You hum it son and I'll play it! ROFL !
Great job, Michael! That is a perfect explanation of a niche and bringing people who are interested in your niche. Love it!
Thank you, Michael. I did it because a lot of people on here were sounding a bit down in their posts, in chat, etc...
I love that you are keeping a mood barometer and making sure we all get a pat on the back by you when we are not at our best!
We are all in business for ourselves. One thing so many people like is a pat on the back. Kind of difficult to do to yourself isn't it?
I will be doing more posts like that.
I must admit I haven't been able to pat myself on the back yet.....:( Yes more pats Lisa!
Look how far you have come with your website and you have created another. You and Lisa did that fantastic video. You are doing an (a word I rarely use) awesome job! Congratulations on all your successes.
Thank you Lisa you are a gem and I can't wait for the day we have Spanish coffee made by your fair hand!
The good thing is, Spanish coffee can be made in any country as long as there is espresso. You may just get some in April 2018 :)
Great advice as usual! My niches, yes plural, 'cause I figure if I am going to put up an Affiliate bootcamp site it might as well be on a niche within making money on line that I am passionate about as well, are really broad by nature. I hope that via my posts I will zoom in on a tiny corner that appeals to only a few thousands of the billions of people on line.. I figure if I can get 1 in 100,000 netizens to hit my sites in a year that's 30,000 plus visitors!
They say that if you only get .000001% of the population you'll still get to be a multimillionaire.....
Good article...Thanks, Michael...
Funnily enough, I wanted to do something like what snaaaz(don't know the name unfortunately) was saying about and I even have a clear idea how to present it.Quite interesting, I believe...Will not give it away because I might come back (or , in my case, come forward ) to it...
And as for a starter(my first site), also have a couple of ideas...Will start next week, I hope...There was a famous phrase of Kyle, something like "Start and fix it while doing"...:)
You can always fix it up later because you have something but you can't fix it if you have nothing to begin with.......thanks Vera!
I think the biggest mistake people make here is not focusing on a topic that A) they are passionate about and B) that is focused on a NEED or strong desire of your target audience. They may also neglect or not understand the importance of keyword research!
If you try to pick a niche that you think is popular or a money maker but it is not something you are personally interested in, you will run out of motivation, inspiration and content!
Also, you need to narrow your focus more the more popular the niche is. For example: if your niche is a certain, obscure species of flower there might not be much competition. If your niche is 'weight loss' you will have a TON of competition and you better narrow it down and have really good keywords.
You could have a great niche but if you are not very careful with your keyword research you could fall flat on your face.
Just some thoughts. It is WAY past my bedtime here in Alaska...this is a bit jumbled. Off to bed!
Thoroughly Loved your post, and the advice is really awesome.
But what to do. I have this "I am everything to everybody' type of attitude.
I mean I like to help others in ways which are known to me and with this thought itself I decided to make a website thru which I can reach out to others.
And my idea was to put on my website, all sort of information /resources I came across in past 2-3years. (ranging from earning money online to spirituality /religion to knowledge base resources) I know I might sound foolish to include all this in one but that's how my inner self is.
How do I overcome it? ahhh
Define your help...in other words you can do all of that but segment it like...and these are off the top of my head, you figure out how you can do it...inspiration for teen agers, how to cope with work, solutions for you at age 35, help for housebound mothers....just try to define your help to a smaller group...you can still have it on one website divided by different pages or categories...
I don't think it's a good idea to mix money and spirituality on one site but link them.
I did create 3 sites:
1. For online Earning (here I included all possibilities I explored in recent times)
2. For Religion (this is very Broad Topic, I guess I should follow your advice by categorizing it) - initial to mid stage of building
3. Health & Beauty (this again is broad) - initial stages
All the three sites are on helping others as well as include affiliate links for the products like Wealthy Aff. program, Language learning aff.program, beauty products aff. program.
Although these are 3 different Site in 3 different areas, but each area has loads of sub-divisions in it.
As you rightly said, Music is one industry and your niche is Jazz, likewise Religion (and/or beauty) is one industry which has many branches of niches, I guess am overdoing it, in the process I may get lost. :-\
It's easy to get lost in a big market...that is why you do have to figure out how to find a small niche and become an authority in it...most health, fitness, religion, money making sites are very broad. Even WA I think gets most people by mainly focussing on four niches, scams, work from home, online marketing and affiliate marketing.
Getting tight is the hard part, but once you get it, it is easier to focus.
I think I need to revisit my niches (or concepts of sites), will try to focus on 1 or max. 2 topics (relatable to each other) and design the sites base on it.
Thanks for guiding my mind in this direction.
Am already anticipating more posts from you covering "narrow the niche" in coming days (thanks in advance lol)
