Wham Bam, Thank You Scam

Sorry, 'wham bam, thank scam' was the best I could come up with. It's getting close to pumpkin time but I wanted to bring your attention to this little gem before tomorrow, as I will be otherwise engaged for a wee while.

Whenever I get these demands for money, after a fictitious transgression, it still sends a sliver of subservience coursing through my veins.

After receiving punishments at school, it was customary to thank the deracinator of the flesh, a sign of respect no doubt and an opportunity to show the least amount of discomfort. Good times.

Anyway, today I was treated to the following, from the 'Home Office', no less.

In this instance, apart from the usual unbelievables, the sender's email address was the icing on the fraudulent cake. <customer@superdeal.ma>.

As I feel it is my duty to investigate the depths of these kinds of scams, taking adequate precautions, I opened door number two and was rewarded with this.

The highlighted areas, under normal circumstances, would denote links, however in this case, they proved to be inefficacious and led no where.

For Google's mobile pleasure, I have listed three clickable links very close together taking you to previous posts pertaining to the wonderful world of the scammers.

If in doubt, delete.

Always a pleasure.

Well, I actually had to look up a word in your post -- deracinator -- wanted to make sure you were giving us a real word.

Scammers are not a force for good. Amazing, that so many seem to think scamming is a good idea. They'll get theirs -- or we can hope so.

😲 Wounded, as if I would foist words upon you.
In truth, I was looking for an alternative to 'Beastmaster The Giver Of Pain' and found 'decracination' and put my own spin on it. So technically it's not a word, though 'decracination' and derivatives of, is.

Hi Twack, t'was missing you so I had to come find you, missed you so much. Although I was the one who was really missing, physically from WA.

The scam -a-thon goes on and on. I thought it strange that the phone number was "temporarily unavailable" what a bunch of horse poopie!

So glad you know what to do. And I just wanted to say hello. and wish you a prosperous and happy week! And thanks for navigating the ship away from the danger for us. You are much appreciated Twackster! Keep stirring things things up in the way only you can do it.
Your friend, Suzay

I've missed you too Suzay, though I seem to remember seeing you pass by on another thread (or possibly a profile) a couple of weeks back, though it's possible I am mistaken. Life's a little hazy at present. Not sure whether I'm coming, going, been, gone or maybe all four.
Either or, neither nor, it's always good to see you and thank you for your kind words. I hope this one was useful, it's fun seeing what's behind the curtain.

Yipper, Skipper, this is true. Yes you did see me, so your mind is not hazy in it's thinking. You are in your correct mind.

It's always good to be reminded that the criminal mind needs a gullible or naive victim to "do their work for them." Because criminals do not work like the rest of us, nor do they see the world as we do.
They are the epicenter of their world view.
We are just a thing to them.
They value our stuff, if they can snatch it away from us, more than they value an ethereal friendship. Use you, then lose you.

Hey Twack, I am so glad to know you, and have you as a precious friend.
Suzay

I knew I wasn't going mad, though sometimes it's hard to tell.

As always Suzay, you are very kind. I look forward to our 'meet-ups' as and when they occur and I too value your friendship.

As for the 'low-life's', yes, they do have their 'marks' that they target, so the more we can do to raise awareness of these scams, the better.

It’s important to maintain awareness of these things and it seems to be on the increase too.
I have had similar scam type emails allegedly from PayPal, Apple, Netflix, banks and TV licensing too.
As you said there are often clues in the text itself but looking closely at the senders email is often the giveaway.

My worry is that people less aware of it, such as older parents, will fall for it.

I think you have nailed the demographic Dave, that's the sad part.
Nice chair, by the way.

Good Morning Twack,

Well, I must say, you are having an unfair share of scammers lately. Do not give in, stay strong.
I am happy they have not found their way to the south yet. Physical crooks are abundant on the Costa del Sol, must be the nice weather.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

I knew that used to be the case along that beautiful coastline, I had no idea it was still the preferred destination, like you say, it must be the weather.
I don't mind getting these attempts at hoodwinkery, they're more fun than sales pitches.

I mean that’s good but if they had been really clever and used your local borough or district council then I may very well have chased it and phoned them.
My goodness TwAck they really are singling you out for their nefarious imaginative scams.

Must keep mum abreast of the latest because for sure she would pay it. “Home Office” would have Mum all of a dither 😢👀
Thankyou for sharing great post as always 👍

My pleasure Cordelia and thank you. I think I must have given out my email one to many times, c'est la vie.
