Amazon Scam Alert

I was all set to write my post and this appeared in my inbox, hence the 'Amazon Scam Alert' title.

First glance it looks pretty legit. Were it not for the fact that I have nothing on order with Amazon, I may well have given it a second glance. Actually, I probably wouldn't have, when you get dozens of these type of 'scam' emails, you can smell them. Though, this is my first 'Amazon' type.

That said, notice how the email address looks like the real deal.

In the body of text there were a couple of links which either ask if you wanted to 'View' your orders or 'Confirm and complete your orders'

If you are inquisitive, as I am sure some will be, there is a something you can do without putting yourself at risk.

If you hover the cursor over the highlighted words and then right click you mouse, the menu that appears will have an option to:

'Copy link address'

You can select that and it will do what it says. Then you can open a 'Notepad' file, or other blank document like Word or Wordpad (or the equivalent on a Mac) and paste the link there. Now you can see exactly where the link was going to take you.

In this instance, I'm pretty sure it wasn't going to Amazon. Here's the link:

http://d.lamarcaprosecco.com/modules/color/lmages/

Through a series of redirects you could well end up here.

Well now, that does look convincing. Obviously the trail ends here. If you try any of the links on this page, you will either end up back on this page or they just won't work. I did manage to get to a '404' page as well. It's not something I would advise trying anyway.

From start to finish, there's enough 'red flags' to stop a dozen trains. I also don't recommend that you play around with this type of scam, unless you know how the game is played.

Dave wrote a post the other day Cyber Security (Or lack of.) which covers a different aspect but one that is equally important.

Sorry that this isn't my normal type of post but I thought it important to bring this to your attention, as I haven't had one of these before.

I'll leave my good news for the next one.

Stay safe and be aware that even in these difficult times, there will still be those that are quite happy to rip you off.

Twack Romero.

It sucks to get these when you actually are doing a bit of shopping on Amazo. I get them all the time saying my shipping was delayed sign in to verify orders. I wouldn't follow the trails on these as they can lead to people clicking the wrong link and allowing in a virus instead of just phishing for info.

Hey Jason, good to see you. I agree. Luckily, the last of my orders had not long been delievered, had that not been the case I might not have been quite as suspicious.

Hi Twack,
Thanks for this alert. I have been hounded with less sophisticated messages that I ignored. But these scammers can reproduce a well-known brand signature.

But when you haven't ordered anything from a specific company, it is a "no-brainer" to delete.

Another one that shows with us quite often, is Paypal. It looks so real. When I sign into my Paypal account I find there is nothing going on.

Of course, I never give any info to anyone unless I am sure they are who they say they are.

Thanks again.

Bill

You're very welcome Bill. Yes, the Paypal one is another favourite along with tax refunds. I t never hurts to be extra careful these days.

I've received two Amazon like emails over the last couple of weeks. They just didn't look (or sound) right. Said something about my Prime account needing attention to avoid loosing my Prime benefits.

The senders (email address) looked very peculiar and the sentence structure seemed like odd English in a couple of places. So I sent the email off to ... stop-spoofing@amazon.com.

Amazon prefers that it be sent as an 'email attachment', a procedure I could not figure out how to do with my Comcast email. So I just Forwarded it. Hope that works and that I get confirmation from Amazon that is was, in fact, a scam email.

Well spotted Dennis, there are so many of these doing the rounds. Reporting has to help and it's as much as we can do.
Appreciate you stopping by and thanks for the 'spoofing' website.

There are always scammers . They must be allergic to the 4-lettered word, W-O-R-K.

The tiny lizard brain feels nothing. No shiver of Fear, like suddenly having to do public speaking. No conscience, no thought of being punished when caught, nothing.
It's just another meal. That's all, eating. Then forgotten like last Tuesday's lunch. Nothing.
Emotional flatliners, although some mimic emotions to fit in with the sheeples, to eat them.

Animals have emotions, and are quite capable of reading ours and the stories they tell about our lives. Some even come to us, rather into our lives, because they are sent to show the path of healing for you via them.
When you may discover this, pacing of your trail, they can give you their heavenly gift of healing. Often they have to go "home" after that. They so put their energy into accelerating you over your past hurts, that they can barely hang on. Their lives are short, but so meaningful, if you read them.
I hope mine are all waiting for me. Sometimes I get so tired of this world. Pretty blue world wants to shill us, kill us, grill us.

Thanks for people like Twack!

And thank you for Suzay. You are right on all counts. Given the right circumstances our dogs have an innate ability to sense our emotions and act accordingly, regardless of their own self. They don't ask for anything in return either, alruism in its' purest form.

As for the scammers, they are part of the 'day to day' and I hope that our vigilance makes their lives harder.

Thank you for sharing this. I get these types of e-mails all the time. I just trash them because I know exactly what I have ordered and these usually come when I have nothing on order. For about a month I received one nearly daily! Ugh... What a waste of my inbox space!

With 2020 vision,
Karin 😁

Certainly the best way of dealing with it. Thanks for stopping by Karin, very much appreciated.

Welcome. Always fun to read your posts!

Karin

Thank you Karin, that's very kind of you to say so.
